Members Not Seeking Re-election to the 44th Parliament  Sudbury was built on the backs of waves of immigrants from Italy, Finland, Poland, Ukraine, Greece, Croatia, Serbia and many more, and more recently, a strong South Asian, Syrian and African contingent. Members can see I am proud to be a Sudburian. I grew up in a working-class home in Kapuskasing.

He walked for seven days to Iran, became shipwrecked on his way to Greece and landed in refugee camps across eastern Europe. Corporal Justin Bronzan, who is a former infantryman with the Royal Canadian Regiment and a Bay of Quinte citizen, took Omar in and reunited his family in Canada in mid-October.

Finance committee  That can lead, ultimately, to a debt crisis, which is clearly not the case in Canada but which has been the case in some countries in recent history. For example, in Greece there were severe and very profound fiscal issues. That is one example of something that can happen if there is an uncontrolled debt-to-GDP ratio that's ever-increasing.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, I recently saw it reported that in terms of countries that have the most debt, Canada is right behind Greece. What are the government's plans to address the huge debt that this country has and the inflation we are now seeing?

Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021  The OECD is saying that Canada will have the slowest growth of all the world's industrialized economies. That is worse than Italy and Greece. With all due respect to my Greek and Italian friends, they are perennial underperformers. That is not where Canada should be. What is even more worrisome was a report that came out in January that said Canada has had the weakest private sector investment in our economy in years.

Business of Supply  Tam and Moore offered those comments knowing the situation on the ground, and knowing the examples of other countries, such as Sweden, Norway, Greece, the Czech Republic, many states in the U.S.A., the U.K, France, Portugal and Switzerland, dropping those mandates. The evidence those doctors used to make their decisions is some of the same evidence used by Drs.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  We must examine the issue of arms sales, and suspend the export of military equipment, to Saudi Arabia, as a number of other countries have done, such as Austria, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Finland, the Netherlands, and Sweden. We have a duty to protect. Yemen is hardly talked about. The conflict has been going on for seven years. There is no joint, international action as we see with Ukraine.

National Defence committee  Chair, where we have had tensions between allies in the past, including between Turkey and Greece as an example, the Secretary General has very quickly put in place deconfliction mechanisms involving the two parties speaking offline, in this case, at a military level. These have proven to be very effective.

Business of Supply  According to the World Health Organization, or WHO, there has been a resurgence of the pandemic in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Greece, France, Italy, Germany and 12 other countries in the European region. On Tuesday, the WHO director for Europe criticized European countries for lifting their COVID-19 restrictions too abruptly, saying this was likely responsible for the current rise in cases.

Finance committee  If we look at OECD countries over the last 20 years, really only three ever got to that level. They were Ireland, Greece and Spain in the mid-2000s. They subsequently suffered from a very severe housing downturn. The concern is that as people pour more money into residential estate and less into the productive elements of the economy, the ability to service that debt longer term is arguably diminished.

Greek Independence Day  Madam Speaker, today, March 25, is a very important day for Greece, across Canada and around the world. On this day, 201 years ago, Greece won back its independence from the Ottoman Empire during the revolutionary war of 1821. Brave men and women, heroes, fought, many to their death, for the freedom of future generations of Greeks.

Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021  Back in December, the OECD released a report that said Canada would be among the worst performing economies in the industrialized world this decade, and worse than perennial underperformers like Italy and Greece. Perhaps it is even more concerning that this report also indicated that it foresaw a further two decades of weak growth. I wonder why this is not raising more alarm bells. How does $71 billion of more spending, how do more taxes and how does more debt turn this around?
