Madam Chair, I realize that you made your decision after consulting with the clerk. But this is the first time I've ever heard that we can't vote on a motion that is on the agenda because the proceedings are in camera. I believe Ms. Truppe's motion was for us to move in camera, was it not?

That's not what it was, Mr. Choquette. I'll just clarify things so you fully understand what's happening now. Ms. Sgro put forward a motion. Ms. Truppe put forward another motion, which was to adjourn the debate. Her motion was in order, we voted on it, and it carried. That compels us to adjourn the debate on Ms. Sgro's motion. We can no longer discuss or vote on that. It was not a motion to move in camera; it was a motion to adjourn the debate.

Unfortunately not, because that brought the debate to a complete halt. The clerk confirmed that the rules compel us to stop the debate entirely. The clerk told me that the vote has to be held after the debate. And since there was no debate, we can't hold a vote.
