Petitions October 31st, 1994

Mr. Speaker, the second petition has to do with the sanctity of life.

The petitioners call upon Parliament to act immediately to extend protection to the unborn child by amending the Criminal Code to extend the same protection enjoyed by born human beings to unborn human beings.

Petitions October 31st, 1994

Mr. Speaker, I have two petitions. The first calls upon Parliament to recognize the public threat of dangerous offenders and to amend the Criminal Code to have such offenders detained indefinitely at warrant expiry when it is believed that they may cause serious physical, psychological harm or death to another person.

This petition is signed by people from all across southern Ontario.

Taxation October 31st, 1994

Mr. Speaker, my question is for the Minister of National Revenue.

Canadians who pay their taxes are justifiably concerned when they hear about Canadians who are able to escape taxation either through the underground economy or loopholes of one sort or another.

What is the Minister of National Revenue doing right now about Canadians who it appears do not pay their fair share of taxes?

Petitions October 28th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, I have a petition from many residents in my riding of Leeds-Grenville calling on Parliament to inform the Leader of the Opposition that he is not supporting the majority view of the residents of Leeds-Grenville when he is travelling to all parts of the world to promote the separation of Quebec from Canada.

Petitions October 26th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, I have two petitions from my riding of Leeds-Grenville.

In the first petition, the signatories are petitioning against any pending legislation which would extend to homosexual couples the same privileges as are extended to heterosexual couples.

The second petition has to do with same sex relationships. They are asking that privileges not be extended to homosexual couples as is currently enjoyed by heterosexual couples.

Petitions October 19th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, I have a petition from residents of my riding asking the government to repeal section 745 of the Criminal Code which would sentence people convicted of murder to life imprisonment with chance of parole after 25 years but review after 15 years. They are objecting to it and think that section of the Criminal Code should be repealed so that it would not be allowed.

It is always kind of sad when somebody in the community starts a petition, collects hundreds of names, and then when the petition arrives it does not meet the requirements; it is lacking in form. I am always sad when that happens.

I have two such petitions here which I know I cannot present in the usual way at the table or get any record for them. However they are both objecting to suggested gun control that is being discussed in Canada. They think we should have criminal control.

Petitions October 5th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, I have a petition signed by 200 people from across eastern Ontario with concerns about the way our law is applied very often to child abusers. They mention here that babies and young children lack the ability to defend themselves. Therefore, they are calling upon Parliament to amend the Criminal Code to ensure that stiffer sentences and mandatory treatment are handed out to all child abusers.

United Nations October 5th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, my question is for the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

I thought the minister's idea of a permanent United Nations army for rapid deployment to trouble spots around the world had a great deal of merit. Other member nations at the UN apparently did not agree with Canada's proposal.

Does the minister have any plans to modify or amend his proposal to try again to get it accepted or have we heard the last of this good idea from Canada?

Petitions September 28th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, I have a very extensive petition signed by hundreds of people from all across Ontario, including places like Kemptville, Vanier, Nepean and so forth.

The petitioners call on Parliament to recognize the public threat of dangerous offenders and to amend the Criminal Code to have such offenders detained indefinitely on warrant expiry, when it is believed they may cause serious physical or psychological harm or death of another person.

It is a pleasure for me to present this petition today.

Petitions June 17th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, I too have a petition from just about every community in my riding of Leeds-Grenville expressing concern for the family.

They ask that Parliament not amend the human rights code, the Canadian Human Rights Act or the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in any way which would tend to indicate societal approval of same-sex relationships or homosexuality, including amending the human rights code to include in the prohibited grounds for discrimination the undefined phrase sexual orientation.

It is a great pleasure to present these petitions on behalf of my constituents.
