Statements in the House

Privilege June 13th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, on a point of order, the Speaker has told the member that this is supposed to be relevant to the question of privilege. It seems that the member is getting into the budget debate. I wonder if he understands that he is still speaking to a question of privilege. Just to keep him on track, I am curious to know if he has that in mind when making his statement now.

Petitions June 13th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, I would like to present a petition from northeastern B.C..

The petitioners note that Canada is the only nation in the western world, in the company of China and North Korea, without any laws restricting abortion and that Canada's Supreme Court has said that it is Parliament's responsibility to enact abortion legislation.

Therefore, the petitioners call upon the House of Commons and Parliament assembled to speedily enact legislation that restricts abortion to the greatest extent possible.

Jobs, Growth and Long-term Prosperity Act June 12th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. I just think the member for Malpeque should get a life.

Points of Order June 8th, 2012

You are welcome. You are welcome.

Points of Order June 8th, 2012

NDP not Conservatives.

Pooled Registered Pension Plans Act June 7th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, I am confused as to why the hon. member would not take up this opportunity.

The demographic we are talking about in the pooled pension system being offered is usually a demographic that is not covered by normal pension systems. I am a little confuse as to why he would not be supportive of a measure like this since it would help people. I am curious to know what his alternative is and why he is opposed to it.

Natural Resources June 5th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, the NDP leader has shamefully attacked Canadians who work in Canada's resource sectors by calling the industries that provide their communities with jobs a “disease” to Canada. This irresponsible position is offensive to Canadians everywhere.

Could the Minister of Natural Resources please update the House on the government's position regarding resource industry jobs?

Game on the Hill June 4th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, today I had the opportunity to participate in the “Game on the Hill”, a friendly game of rugby which took place on the Parliament Hill lawn. The game featured a few of my colleagues as well as local celebrities and members of Canada's national team.

As a former premier player and university coach, rugby has always been a passion of mine and I am pleased to see this sport's popularity continue to grow. I have no doubt that this is due in no small part to Rugby Canada and the rising success of our national teams.

Some of my fondest memories are from being on a rugby field, and I encourage all Canadians to get involved in their local leagues. It is a great sport for both children and adults and a great way to stay active. I cannot say enough about what rugby has done for me.

I look forward to seeing rugby return to the Olympic Games in 2016 and watching our National Seniors Men's Team strive to compete for gold.

I wish members of the National Senior Men's Team the best of luck as they prepare for the summer series and their game against the United States on Saturday.

Go Canada go.

Protecting Canada's Immigration System Act June 1st, 2012

Doesn't sound very good for Canadians.

Restoring Rail Service Act May 29th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, there is one group of workers that I have not heard her speak to. I was a carpenter in another life, but I have not heard her talk about forestry workers, mine workers, automotive workers and farmers. She mentioned a very large sector of our economy, but failed to mention those huge sectors of employees.

Although you referred to union employees, you certainly did not talk about these workers in any favourable terms. I am curious about your position on these folks.
