Mr. Speaker, the Chief Public Health Officer and the chief medical officers of this country have stated that both adjuvanted and unadjuvanted vaccines are safe for pregnant women.

Second, Canada's obstetricians and gynecologists also say that they are safe and available to Canadian pregnant women.

We take the advice very seriously of the Chief Public Health Officer and I think the opposition should as well.

Health October 27th, 2009

Mr. Speaker, Canada is well positioned in dealing with this pandemic. We have implemented the pandemic plan since April. We are in a very fortunate position now. We are able to vaccinate every single Canadian in this country, every single youth, adult, senior, et cetera.

We will continue to work with the provinces and territories for the rollout of the vaccine. Yesterday was the first day of the rollout and we will continue to see people line up to get the vaccine for the next two weeks.

Health October 27th, 2009

Mr. Speaker, again, we continue to work with the provinces and territories in the rollout. Our government has demonstrated leadership when it comes to communicating with Canadians on the H1N1. We have held weekly conferences with the provinces and territories, as well as weekly conferences and weekly updates with the opposition critics, and a public education campaign, which includes print, radio and so on.

Our government is ensuring that we inform as many Canadians as possible about ways to protect themselves and their families, and we encourage the opposition members to do the same.

Health October 27th, 2009

Mr. Speaker, we continue to work with the provinces and territories on the rollout and we take the matter very seriously. Both the Chief Public Health Officer of this country and medical officers of this country have stated both non-adjuvanted and adjuvanted are safe for pregnant women.

As well, the Canadian Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists says that it is safe.

Why can the member not accept the advice of experts?

Health October 27th, 2009

Mr. Speaker, the Chief Public Health Officer and the medical officers of provinces and territories have all said that both vaccines are safe for pregnant women. We take their advice very seriously and every Canadian who wants a vaccine will receive it.

We are urging Canadians to get the vaccine because this is the best way to protect themselves and their families.

Points of Order October 22nd, 2009

Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order with regard to my response to the hon. member for York Centre. I said the website was www.fightflu.com and it should be www.fightflu.ca.

Health October 22nd, 2009

Mr. Speaker, in addition to what I said earlier, last week I announced the preparedness for H1N1 booklet. This will be available in every post office across the country. Since then, at fightflu.com, we have had over 60,000 hits on this site alone.

The Chief Public Health Officer of this country has also stated that adjuvanted and unadjuvanted are safe vaccines for all Canadians.

Health October 22nd, 2009

Mr. Speaker, this government has been taking H1N1 very seriously from day one.

Communication is part of the whole strategy. From the very beginning and for the last six and a half months, we have been communicating with Canadians providing information on H1N1 as we knew it.

We now have television ads, posters and radio advertisements. We have weekly updates with the health committee. I have met with the Chief Public Health Officer on a weekly basis, updating Canadians. I have also met with the provincial and territorial health ministers and first nations communities.

Yesterday we approved the vaccine for Canadians for the provinces and territories.

Health October 21st, 2009

Mr. Speaker, in Canada, the chief medical officers and the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada have advised women in Canada who are pregnant that an unadjuvanted vaccine is safe.

I have every confidence in the expert advice that I am receiving from the Chief Public Health Officer of this country, and the opposition members should as well.

Health October 20th, 2009

Mr. Speaker, the Chief Public Health Officer has been quoted as saying that both vaccines are safe. We rely on the advice of the medical experts and the advice of the Chief Public Health Officer of this country that both vaccines are safe. Why will the opposition members not accept his advice?
