Mr. Speaker, this is another example of the NDP saying one thing and doing another.

It was the NDP that accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars of illegal donations from unions.

We are concerned about what the Supreme Court of Canada said about the Liberals' attempt to disenfranchise entitled voters and undermine the public confidence in the electoral process and the fact that the NDP accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal union donations.

Mr. Speaker, we have some serious concerns over what the Supreme Court of Canada has called the Liberals' attempt to disenfranchise entitled voters and undermine public confidence in the electoral process and the fact that the NDP has accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal union donations.

We are going to make changes to Canada's election laws and we are going to take the time to get it right.

Mr. Speaker, our government is pleased to announce that it will introduce comprehensive legislation on Thursday to improve the integrity, accountability, and administration of Canada's election laws. The new legislation will respond to the motion passed by the House of Commons last year and a recommendation made by the Chief Electoral Officer, the procedure and House affairs committee, and others.

Mr. Speaker, let us talk about following the law. It was the Liberals who were investigated, fined and found guilty of making illegal robocalls, and then again, the member for Westmount—Ville-Marie said that he did make illegal robocalls. The NDP accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal donations from the big union bosses and were then forced to pay it back.

As we have said before, a comprehensive proposal will be put forward in the near future.

Mr. Speaker, a report was tabled just yesterday by the Chief Electoral Officer and we are considering those recommendations to prepare our proposal on election laws. That proposal will be put forward in due course.

The Chief Electoral Officer presented a report just yesterday, which was tabled. We are reviewing those recommendations and a comprehensive proposal will be put forward in due course.
