At present there's very little transparency or access. Recently, the 26 top corn scientists in the U.S. sent out a letter saying that they can't get access to the data they need from GM crops because it's all locked up under contract and under patent. So they can't get any access to it.
It raises a lot of issues with this question of public breeding programs. One of the big problems right now is that the biodiversity that exists, the genetic resources that are out there, so much of it now is being locked up by these companies. As a public breeder you can't get access to it, so it's creating sort of segregated streams of research.
