That is great question. Algorithmic technologies can be very broad, depending on what level you're defining them at. In our report we defined algorithmic policing technologies specifically. If you think about it, an Excel spreadsheet could potentially be an algorithmic technology, in the sense that it relies on algorithms.
Algorithmic policing technologies, for the purposes of scoping our report—and I suspect it would probably be helpful in scoping for your committee—are emerging technologies that rely on automated computational formulas that are often used to assist or supplement police decision-making.
