I spend a lot of time talking with people and visiting other communities. Recently I was in Port Dover, which is a small town in southern Ontario, and I spoke to many people there who were not homeless but were living in poverty. When you're living in a rural area, the services are often very limited. You're restricted even to see a doctor if you don't have public transportation. How do you get out of Port Dover to go to Simcoe if you are a disabled person?
We need to look at how poverty affects people not only in cities but also in rural settings. It's important that we seek out people who are living in poverty in those areas and find out how we can make their lives better.
