Prior to entertaining any member at this point, I'd like to take the liberty of the chair just to make a few comments, if I might.
It is quite a privilege to be in the chair of any standing committee. In my time on Parliament Hill I've sat on committees and have seen some very talented chairs, and I hope I can live up to being even half as good as some of them. The prior chair of this committee, Ed Komarnicki, was a very good chair of this committee. He is a talented man and his shoes will be hard to fill. He is a gentleman. I have enjoyed all the time on this committee with Ed in the chair, and I hope to follow in his footsteps.
I also look forward to working with all the members of the committee in terms of cooperation and moving forward, because this is an important committee. It's an important committee because we have influence over what goes forward to improve the lives of Canadians in many different ways.
I am very privileged to be here, and I want to thank all of you for your support today in installing me in the chair.
Now we'll go to Mr. Armstrong, whose hand was up first.
