Here's what happened to the 80 representatives of the UN force. They were mainly Indians who had just arrived in the region and had not received any training, or very little, on how to protect civilians. In addition, they were apparently not made aware of what was going on.
They apparently entered the village and, as they had seen nothing and no one had come and seen them, they were not alerted about these issues. They were alerted later on, and, even after being alerted, they acted much too late to be able to help the population.
