I have discovered recently, because of social media, that the government has been very vocal toward anybody who expresses any opposition to them even outside the country. The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights is suggesting that the president's seeking a third candidacy was the trigger, but not really the cause of the current situation. They are suggesting that the cause is a history of violence and impunity, as well as the high youth unemployment and real or perceived domination of state institutions by the ruling party, the rise of corruption, and the poor social safety net.
Would you agree with that?
