The Clerk of the Committee Mr. Jean-Marie David

Honourable members, I see that we have a quorum. We do need to elect a chair. Pursuant to the standing order, I'm ready to receive any motion to that effect.

Ms. Damoff.

Pam Damoff Liberal Oakville North—Burlington, ON

I'll nominate Mr. Calkins as chair.

The Clerk

It's been moved that Mr. Calkins be elected acting chair. Are there any other motions?

“Acting”? I thought this was permanent.

Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?

Some hon. members

Agreed.

The Clerk

I invite Mr. Calkins to take the chair.

I don't think I want to give that opportunity to Phoenix to adjust my pay one more time anyway.

Good morning, colleagues. We have a bit of an issue here. First of all, thank you for your confidence in me to be the chair for a few minutes. As we know, there's a time allocation motion before the House right now. Our colleague, Mr. Rayes, is supposed to be here, but I think he's tied up—and I'm not saying this in any pejorative way at all. What I would recommend, colleagues, is that we just suspend the meeting until after the votes and come back after the votes; then hear from Mr. Rayes, and proceed with our committee business. Is that suitable to the committee members? Is that okay?

Some hon. members

Agreed.

I was just going to say excellent work, Acting Chair, as your first decision.

I told you I knew what to do.

We'll suspend until after the votes, and the committee will reconvene then.

The Vice-Chair Conservative Pierre Paul-Hus

Good afternoon.

I would like the members from the NDP, the Liberal Party, and our party to agree to adjourn the meeting. Can I have a motion to that effect?

Ms. Damoff, would you like to move the motion?

Pam Damoff Liberal Oakville North—Burlington, ON

I move that we adjourn the meeting.

The Vice-Chair Conservative Pierre Paul-Hus

I see that all the committee members support the motion.

The meeting is adjourned.
