I think it makes a huge difference. I encourage them all the time to go into non-traditional industries. The reason is that first, you get noticed, and chances are that you will do well. If you get noticed, your opportunities tend to increase.

I am a huge promoter of doing something that is not necessarily what everybody is telling you that you must do and that might be a little bit different.
