In both organizations, one of my primary concerns is the transition from being an active member of the Canadian Forces to the other side, the dark side.
What is the dark side? For a lot of members of the Canadian Forces, it's civilian life. That's a traumatic event for people. If they're also suffering from mental health issues, that compounds the stressors that they have to go through.
We need to make sure that there's a smooth transition from active service, whether with the military or with the RCMP, to being a client of VAC. I'm not sure I like the term “client”, but that's what they call it. This is a critical period in an individual's life and in the lives of people he's close to. He's going to take that stress and those stressors and he's going to put it onto his family, so the whole group is in a critical transition period.
