Honourable members of the committee, I see a quorum.

I must inform members that the clerk of the committee can only receive motions for the election of the chair. The clerk cannot entertain any other motions and cannot hear points of order nor take part in debate.

We can now proceed to the election of the chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party.

I wonder, Mr. Galipeau, now that you're the chair if we might send a letter of thanks to Mr. Kerr and Mr. Fantino, and I think to Mr. Gill.

It's a most gracious recommendation. I wonder whether there would be a consensus of the committee for that.

Since you guys worked so hard to get me out of commission I won't even express an opinion about that. Is there consensus? We're going to send a letter of thanks to each of the individuals concerned.
