Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Last Sunday, Mr. Mieczyslaw “Mitch” Lutczyk, a veteran who was almost 96 years old—he would have had his 96th birthday on July 29—passed away. He was one of the very few left who fought in the defensive war in 1939. Then his story is that with part of the Polish army he went to France and fought defending France. When France fell, he went to England and fought defending England. He then became part of the Polish 1st Armoured Division, which landed in Normandy and was attached to the First Canadian Army. He fought in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and then moved to Canada. He spent many years in Canada. He was a great community leader. We will all miss him and I would like to show my great respect for everything he has done in his life.
I don't know whether we are going to have another chance to have an S.O. 31 in the House, but I wanted to present this in committee and that's why I wanted this part of the meeting to not be in camera.
Thank you, Mr. Chair.
