Mr. Speaker, the hon. member has indicated how horrible the legislation seems to be.
I am wondering if the hon. member can indicate why his leader said on May 11, 1990 in the Calgary Herald : People must not expect the government to get out of the assessment of federal projects''. Then he went on in May 1990 in the Calgary Sun to say:
We have jurisdiction, we have responsibilities''. Most important, the hon. member's leader said on May 11, 1990 in the Edmonton Sun : ``I think it is a very profound responsibility of this government and any federal government to fulfil national responsibility, and environment is very much a national responsibility''.
I am wondering if the hon. member has any comments in light of these statements.
