Mr. Speaker, in the wake of the Minister for International Trade's visit to Washington with regard to the softwood lumber crisis, the papers are giving two contradictory versions, one anticipating a truce with the United States through the imposition of an export tax, and the other saying that no agreement was reached and that Canada is maintaining its position.
Can the government confirm that it does not intend to agree to any compromise that will be detrimental to workers and companies, and that its position is, indeed, to restore free trade?
