Mr. Speaker, my husband gave me a book for our anniversary yesterday called Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed: . The crux of this book is that countries succeed by working with their environments. This is exactly what our government is doing: encouraging economic growth, while protecting the environment.
It is too bad the NDP wants to stop all development, and the Liberals do not know what they think.
This summer when I was door-knocking in my riding of Calgary Centre, it was very interesting because this is the crucible of the energy industry, and I met a lot of environmentalists, not the extremists that hang off smokestacks but the environmental engineers, scientists, and researchers. Do members know who they work for? It is oil companies: Suncor, Syncrude, Nexen, Imperial Oil, CNRL.
It is true that we can develop our economy and protect the environment. That is why, under the Conservatives, our country is succeeding.
