Mr. Speaker, I do thank my hon. colleague from Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound for the banana republic without benefit of fruit; it is a good one.
The hon. member and I do not usually get a chance to exchange with each other in Hansard, and I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart for the work that we and a number of other MPs have been doing together to try to do the right thing by former members of the Afghan Parliament, who are women who are now, and have been, on the run for their lives. The hon. member for Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound is one of the finest people I have ever had the privilege to work with.
I would ask the member if there is any way he can see that we could get this to committee faster. Yes, it would go faster if the government sent all the documents, but we surely have enough now, given the Auditor General's report and the commissioner of the environment and sustainable development auditor report, to drill down, call witnesses and get to work in committee.
Is there a way to compromise on this motion?
