Ways And Means January 31st, 2001
Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 83(1) I wish to table a notice of ways and means motion relating to the assessment of expenses regarding a financial consumer agency, and I ask that an order of the day be designated for consideration thereof.
Economic Policy October 20th, 2000
There has been a reduction from $3.07 to $3. Then it dropped to $2.95, and $2.80, and $2.70, and $2.55. Today it is down to $2.25. That is eight drops in a row. This means $6 billion a year for workers and small and medium businesses. Those are real tax cuts.
Economic Policy October 20th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, this is what we have done with employment insurance.
Social Housing October 20th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, that is not true. For example, the child tax benefit was increased by $4 billion a year. The tax rate has dropped to 16%. Taxes over the next five years for families with children will drop by 27%, and the heating oil tax credit for tenants and landlords has been set at $1.3 billion. These are measures for low and middle income families.
Economic Policy October 20th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, that is not true.
In our projection, the vast majority of our tax cuts are for low and middle income Canadians. This is exactly what we did in our budget. We concentrated tax cuts for Canadians who need them most.
Canada Health Care, Early Childhood Development And Other Social Services Funding Act October 19th, 2000
Madam Chairman, as much as I appreciate the intentions of the hon. member I would have to say that, first, the bill respects to the letter the agreement reached among the 14 first ministers and, second, as the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance have indicated, if in future years budgetary conditions permit, issues about increasing the amounts can always be considered at that time.
Canada Health Care, Early Childhood Development And Other Social Services Funding Act October 19th, 2000
Madam Chairman, we accept this amendment.
(Amendment agreed to)
Auditor General's Report October 18th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, I would simply invite Canadians to compare the economic program that will be put forward in a couple of minutes by our finance minister with that put forward by the official opposition to see who is really respecting the rights of all Canadians and not just the elite.
Auditor General's Report October 18th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, for a party which has said that it was going to bring a new sense of respect toward all Canadians, it is not respecting Canadians when it brings out its economic statements and it will not put figures to it and will not put a timeline to it. That is not respect.
Shipbuilding October 18th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, it would be unforgivable for me to scoop the finance minister. I value my life and my friendship too much. I shall not do it.
