Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to inform members of the House that the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has endorsed the agreement we reached with the Public Service Alliance of Canada regarding implementation of the pay equity ruling.
We are therefore prepared to move on to the next step, which is to calculate exactly what is owed each public servant. Our present employees can expect to receive their cheques in four to six months. The amounts will be calculated automatically and paid out by the departments they are currently working for. We have also set up toll-free telephone lines for our former employees.

Supplementary Estimates (A), 1999-2000 November 4th, 1999
Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Orders 81(5) and 81(6), I wish to move a motion concerning referral of the supplementary estimates to the standing committees of the House.
There is a lengthy list of these committees associated with the motion. If it is agreeable to the House, I would ask that the list be printed in
Hansard
as if it had been read.
Visible Minorities October 29th, 1999
Mr. Speaker, we have been working for a number of years to increase the number of people of visible minorities working in the public service, but we have noted that the increase over the past ten years has been very gradual.
Accordingly, we have set up a task force. We have not added to the bureaucracy. These people are volunteers from outside government, people well aware of the problems. They are going to help us draw up an action plan to increase the proportion of visible minorities more quickly so as to be representative of the Canadian population.
Equality October 26th, 1999
Mr. Speaker, contrary to what the hon. member says, our government has indeed taken steps to make the public service even more inclusive. As soon as we were apprised of the problems, my predecessor set up an external advisory board headed by Mr. Perinbam to advise the government on how to achieve an even more inclusive public service.
I do not think that our government has anything to learn from the New Democratic Party on this score.
Pay Equity October 22nd, 1999
Mr. Speaker, it is clear that there is a big difference between the Reform Party and our government. I remind everyone that the Reform Party in its electoral platform said: “We will discontinue employment equity programs and will repeal section 15(2) of the charter of rights and freedoms”. That is the section about equality rights. I do not think we have any reason to hear from the Reform Party on that.
Pay Equity October 21st, 1999
In a few days, Mr. Speaker.
