Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister can try to keep his agenda hidden, but the Minister of Justice and other members of his caucus have betrayed him and shown their true colours. After it loses the vote on same-sex marriage, the government plans to table a radical bill legalizing discrimination against the gay and lesbian community.
How dare the Prime Minister impose his right-wing values on Canadians?

Mr. Speaker, Economic Development Canada should analyze a festival’s application for assistance based on the economic impact that the event will have in its region. The assistance requested was for international promotion. It is a proven fact that the gay Black & Blue Festival will produce economic benefits for Montreal worth $25 million. The minister denied their application for funding.
What should we take from this? Did the minister’s personal opinions outweigh economic development in Montreal?

Mr. Speaker, for several days we have seen that the government is not serious about protecting minorities: the President of the Treasury Board is cancelling the court challenges program; the Minister of Justice is bent on prolonging the debate over same-sex marriage; and the Minister of Economic Development of Canada is using his discretion to deny the gay community of Montreal grant funding.
Has the Prime Minister given his ministers the order that no government program is to support the gay and lesbian community?
Minister of the Environment October 3rd, 2006
Mr. Speaker, we know that most Canadians want their government to respect the Kyoto protocol. That is true in Quebec and in the rest of the country.
However, the minister working on replacing the Kyoto protocol with a so-called national plan said, after her meeting with energy sector leaders:
“Quebec is not really a concern to me”.
How dare the minister say that Quebec is not a concern to her?
Why is the Prime Minister not denouncing these comments?

Mr. Speaker, appointing Darrel Reid as chief of staff is like the Minister of the Environment hiring a pyromaniac to be fire chief.
For six years Mr. Reid was the president of an organization that ridicules the science behind climate change.
How can the Prime Minister tolerate that the chief advisor to the Minister of the Environment does not recognize the most significant environmental problem of our planet?
Judicial Appointments October 2nd, 2006
Mr. Speaker, recent judicial appointments show how important it is to know someone in the minority government.
A former Conservative Party president and the spouse of another organizer were recently appointed to the Superior Court of Québec.
Could the Prime Minister tell us whether from now on you have to be Conservative to be appointed to the judiciary?

Mr. Speaker, the minority government is trying to muzzle minorities by announcing cuts to the court challenges program. It is also trying to muzzle one of the independent voices of the legal system by eliminating funding for the Law Commission of Canada. All that and the government is appointing Conservatives to the judiciary to boot. Canadians have reason to be worried.
Does the Prime Minister realize that he is in the process of changing our judicial system for strictly ideological and partisan reasons?

Mr. Speaker, we have learned that the Prime Minister is going back on his promise to Quebec and the other provinces on the fiscal imbalance. The Prime Minister irresponsibly created expectations that he now cannot meet.
For a second time, he is breaking his promise. First he said it would happen after the election, then it was the fall, then it was after the spring and now it will be when pigs fly.
Since he has never defined or given figures for the fiscal imbalance, will the Prime Minister admit that his promise was nothing but smoke and mirrors, that he had no solution and that he misled Quebeckers?
Government Programs September 27th, 2006
Mr. Speaker, the minority Conservative government cut blindly on the basis of its ideology rather than the merits of the programs.
In the past, the Prime Minister called the regional economic development programs corporate welfare. Not only is there no new money for Economic Development Canada, its budget has been slashed and some programs have been cut.
Now that it is clear his Marshall plan has fallen through, can the minister explain why he has so little influence on the Prime Minister, not to mention his failure as the minister responsible for this issue?

Mr. Speaker, Canada would be quite a different country without the invaluable contribution of thousands of volunteers.
The minority Conservative government cuts have hit the voluntary and community sector with full force. Obviously the social values of the government are not the same as those of Canadians.
What does the Prime Minister have against those who give of their time and energy to build a better Canada?
