Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to table, in both official languages, the fifth report of the Standing Committee on Finance, concerning Bill C-30, an act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 23, 2004, as agreed on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, and to report it with amendments.
The Budget March 24th, 2004
Mr. Speaker, the 2004 budget lays the foundation for a better future for all Canadians. This budget has two clear objectives. It demonstrates unequivocally the principles of financial responsibility and integrity, and begins to give tangible shape to the goals presented in the Speech from the Throne.
Investing in health care, our communities, learning, the well-being and development of our children now and in the future, that is how the government puts people at the heart of all it does.
We will not throw fiscal caution to the wind, nor will we engage in a pre-election spending spree. This is a solid budget that allows Canada to begin another decade of achievement with confidence.

Industrial Materials February 5th, 2003
Mr. Speaker, on January 21, the Government of Canada announced a $11.3 million investment in Valotech for the establishment of the Crossroads for Industrial Materials Innovation (CIMI) on the NRC's Industrial Materials Institute site in Boucherville.
The Government of Canada is partnering with Valotech, a not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to contribute to Montérégie's economic growth in order to create a technological cluster providing space and services to new industrial materials enterprises.
This is yet another example of our government's dynamic research and innovation strategy in all regions of Canada.
Petitions May 29th, 2002
Mr. Speaker, I wish to present a petition signed by several people from Quebec. They are petitioning the Parliament of Canada to repeal subsection 13(5) of the Canada Post Corporation Act, because they allege that this provision deprives rural route mail couriers of the right to collective bargaining. I therefore wish to present this petition on behalf of these people.

Madam Speaker, I have the honour to present the 15th report of the Standing Committee on Finance. This report is in connection with its order of reference of April 19, 2002, in relation to Bill S-40, an act to amend the Payment Clearing and Settlement Act.
The committee has considered Bill S-40 and I am pleased to report it without amendments.
Technological Innovation May 1st, 2002
Mr. Speaker, today I wish to tell the House about the incredible support provided by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation toward the creation of a unique Canadian research and development laboratory in Varennes, Quebec.
Thanks to this funding of over $5.8 million, Canada now has a state-of-the-art nanotechnology research infrastructure. The scientific and technological spinoffs from this initiative will have a significant impact in the telecommunications, biomedical, aerospace and intelligent transport sectors.
This is something tangible that the Government of Canada has done to develop a unique Canadian network of excellence with a number of universities and research centres. For the people of the riding of Verchères--Les-Patriotes, it is one more example of the contribution the federal government is making to the development of excellence in the regions and of our commitment to put Canada right up there with world leaders in technological innovation.

Mr. Speaker, my question is for the Solicitor General of Canada.
During the past weekend shots were fired at the Kanesatake Mohawk police station and yesterday Grand Chief Gabriel asked the federal and provincial governments for support.
What assurances could the Solicitor General of Canada give Grand Chief Gabriel that peace and public order will be maintained in Kanesatake at all times?
