Mr. Speaker, we promised Canada that we would move forward on a plan to invest in Canadians, to invest in Canadian families and to invest in the middle class. That is exactly what we have done. Coming on three years, what has happened as a result of that plan? Those investments have put more money into Canadians' pockets. An average, middle-class family of four in 2019 will be $2,000 better off than it was in 2015. That is the kind of impact we have made on families, which has made a measurable impact on our economy in a positive way.

We will continue to invest in Canadian families. We will continue to have confidence in our future.

Mr. Speaker, the court has been very clear. We need to move forward promptly without unnecessary delay, and that is exactly what we are going to do.

We will not take lessons from a previous failed government. What we will do is move forward, having meaningful engagement with indigenous Canadians, ensuring that we deal with environmental risks in the appropriate way, and giving confidence that this project can go forward so we have access to international markets.

The previous government was unable to do that. We have resolved to make sure we do it in the right way.

Mr. Speaker, we moved forward with the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion. because we know how critically important it is to Canadians. We know how important it is for our economy.

We are not going to take lessons from the previous government that failed to get resources to international markets. We know that 99% of our resources go to the United States. We must create international access for our resources and that is exactly what we are going to do properly by listening and having meaningful consultation with indigenous Canadians and considering the environmental impacts that are so important.

[Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, September 17th, 2018]

Mr. Speaker, it is very important to have accurate numbers. Here are the real numbers. The unemployment rate is at one of its lowest points in 40 years. That means the number of Canadians working has risen, with more than 500,000 people working full time. This is really great for Canadians. Last year, we had higher growth than any other country in the G7. We are going to keep moving forward with our measures to strengthen the middle class and all Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague, the member for Newmarket—Aurora, for his question and the important work he does.

Today, the leading Canadian banks and other financial institutions announced that they are going to join together to create a fund of up to $1 billion over 10 years to support small and medium-sized businesses in our country to help them grow. More than just funding, this is going to help with guidance and mentorship in networks so that small businesses can be successful, creating jobs and growing our economy.

[International Trade, June 19th, 2018]

Mr. Speaker, I would like to bring us back to remember what we were actually left with, which was $150 billion in additional debt from the last government. We were also left with a high unemployment rate, which was 7.1%. We were also left with a low growth rate.

We have turned all of that around, with the lowest unemployment rate we have seen in 40 years and the highest growth rate we have seen in a decade.

Importantly, what the member does not quite understand is that yes, in fact, we do create a contingency in every budget. We did that this year, as we have done in past years. We are doing what we need to do to help Canadian families.

Mr. Speaker, we believe it is important that in our country we have the ability to get our resources to international markets. It is why we have moved forward on the decision to ensure that the Trans Mountain expansion project gets done. We know this is in the best interests of Canadians. It will help our economy. It will create thousands of jobs across our country.

We would certainly hope the members opposite would see the advantage this creates for workers in Alberta, British Columbia, and across the country.

Mr. Speaker, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board operates as an independent entity at arm's length from government. Should it decide to be involved in any potential acquisition of any equity, it is not something that we would be involved in as a government.

Mr. Speaker, unfortunately, that is not an accurate reflection of the situation. The numbers are clear. Thanks to the Canada child benefit, nine out of 10 families are better off. We also cut taxes for the middle class. Those are the real numbers.

Because of our policies, our economy is stronger. That means economic growth is higher, which is great for the families of today and tomorrow.

Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives are cherry-picking numbers. However, the important numbers are the ones that concern Canadians.

Every family is better off, and our economic growth leads the G7. It is also very important to remember that last year, business investment in Canada rose by 8%. Those are the real numbers.

We are better off thanks to our policies and the global economy.
