Statements in the House

Committees of the House December 9th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I really enjoyed my Bloc Québécois colleague's speech. He is so energetic.

I would like his opinion on the partnership approach. In Châteauguay, we are very proud of a project that was built in 2022 as part of the federal government's rapid housing initiative. It included contributions from the Quebec government and the City of Châteauguay, in partnership with the Mohawk community of Kahnawake. We are very proud of this project.

Does my hon. colleague think we should continue along this path? Will he support us in that endeavour?

Committees of the House December 9th, 2024

Madam Speaker, I really enjoyed my colleague's speech. The whole issue of financial independence is closely related to the work that I was doing before I became an MP. I am far from an expert on the problem that first nations are experiencing, but I heard my colleague talk about Yänonhchia', and I would like to know more about how it works.

Small Business December 2nd, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the global pandemic was hard for retailers, restaurants, the hospitality industry and the tourism industry. Our government took action to help these businesses during that difficult time with programs like the the Canada emergency business account. Now, my constituents want to know what we are doing to help them now that the economy has begun to improve.

Can the Minister of Environment and Climate Change tell us more about the government's plan?

Member for Châteauguay—Lacolle November 22nd, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the people of Châteauguay—Lacolle, now Châteauguay—Les Jardins-de-Napierville, did me the immense honour of putting their trust in me when they elected me as their federal MP in 2015, 2019, and 2021.

I am proud of our Liberal government, under the visionary leadership of our Prime Minister, and of all the outstanding, transformative measures that our government has passed and continues to put forward for all Canadians.

There are too many measures to list here, but of note are the two-month GST holiday, accessible dental care and major projects in housing, critical infrastructure and economic development, all while reducing greenhouse gases.

I am proud to have contributed my part in this great work, but I must now inform the House that I have made the difficult personal decision not to run again in the next election. Instead, I now look forward to seeing a new Liberal member of Parliament take the seat for Châteauguay–Les Jardins‑de‑Napierville.

Housing November 18th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, we know that the Conservative leader has had a difficult week due to the scandal around his plans to end the housing agreement with Quebec.

Today, the government announced a significant new investment under this agreement that adds thousands of social and affordable housing units.

Can the Minister of Public Services and Procurement inform the House of the positive impact of today's announcement and the potential consequences the Conservative leader's cuts would have on Quebeckers?

Housing November 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, our government has an ambitious housing plan that involves combatting homelessness, providing access to home ownership through the FHSA or smaller mortgages, making federal public lands available and investing in co-op housing.

Can the Minister responsible for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec tell us how these measures will improve access to housing and increase the housing supply across the country?

Health October 22nd, 2024

Mr. Speaker, access to contraceptives like the birth control pill improves equality and provides women with the ability to decide if or when they will start a family. We know that cost is the single most significant barrier for women and gender-diverse Canadians in accessing these medicines.

Can the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth please share with the House how the Pharmacare Act will impact Canadians?

Women and Gender Equality October 11th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, last week at the United Nations, we heard the Minister of Foreign Affairs say:

Often, the people who claim to speak for freedom are the same people who want the government to decide who people can love, who they are or even what they can wear.

We see it in our country. We see it around the world....

In Afghanistan, we see it taken to its extreme as the Taliban continue to impose inhumane rules against women and girls....

Today, on the International Day of the Girl, I asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs if she can reaffirm our government's commitment to girls.

Privilege October 11th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I listened to what I guess we could call a speech from my colleague opposite, and for those in the gallery, please be aware of what is going on here. This is mudslinging. This is a member trying to poison our parliamentary environment with a litany of I do not know what. The partisan jabs, we can take, but when a member of the House goes after institutions like the Auditor General and the RCMP federal investigative forces, that is beyond the pale.

They go after individuals. By the way, because it is not something that I do, I really do feel sorry for the member because she seems to be a talented person, yet she has been reduced to that. Annette Verschuren was actually a former adviser to Stephen Harper and, I believe, to Jim Flaherty—

Committees of the House October 9th, 2024

Madam Speaker, I listened with great interest to the speech of the hon. member, and again I must thank him for his diligence and his ability, quite frankly, to speak to the House on so many different matters that come before it.

This has all been litigated before. The ethics committee produced a report that was well thought out and well written. Why we have to rediscuss it escapes me. Maybe there are a few things the hon. member would like to put on record at this time.
