Petitions June 12th, 2013

Mr. Speaker, I continue to receive petitions regarding the Experimental Lakes Area. The petitioners would like the government to reconsider its decision in this matter to close the Experimental Lakes Area, sell it off and not fund it. They would like the funding to continue.

I would also like to give congratulations to Diane Orihel who has worked long and hard persistently to raise this issue across Canada.

Petitions June 12th, 2013

Mr. Speaker, I have two sets of petitions today.

The first is from residents from Thunder Bay and across Ontario protesting the closure of the Thunder Bay Marine Communication and Traffic Services centre, which is crucial to the safety of boaters all the way from Lake Winnipeg to Lake Huron, with Lake Superior in the middle.

The petitioners ask that the House reverse the government's decision on this matter.

Petitions June 10th, 2013

Mr. Speaker, I would like to present a petition on behalf of residents from Thunder Bay and across much of Ontario protesting the closure of the Thunder Bay Marine Communications and Traffic Services centre. It covers an area all the way from Lake Winnipeg down through Lake Superior, all the way to Lake Huron. It ensures the safety of boaters throughout that entire series of watersheds. They ask us to reverse the government's decision to close that centre.

Rail Transportation June 10th, 2013

Mr. Speaker, VIA Rail's latest annual report reveals that VIA is in big trouble. The VIA board clearly intends to shrink our national dream down to just the Quebec-southern Ontario corridor, and the Conservative government has no rail strategy. This week in Ottawa, Toronto and Thunder Bay, I am releasing my own independent MP's 90-page report on how to restore VIA Rail.

When and how will the Conservatives put VIA Rail back on track?

Petitions June 6th, 2013

Mr. Speaker, I present a petition today on behalf of residents from Thunder Bay, northwestern Ontario and across Ontario protesting the closure of the Thunder Bay Marine Communications and Traffic Services Centre. This is a safety issue. The centre is crucial to the safety of boaters and marine traffic on all of the lakes and rivers all the way from Lake Winnipeg down through to Lake Huron.

The petitioners are asking that this House reverse the government's decision to close this important safety centre, which has been an important institution in the northern marine community for over 100 years.
