Mr. Speaker, I have two petitions today. The first is a petition on behalf of residents of Peterborough and other parts of Ontario.

The petitioners implore the government to restore funding to the group KAIROS, as KAIROS is renowned worldwide as Canada's most respected faith-based development and human rights group and has received funding from CIDA for over 35 years and that funding should continue.

Jobs and Growth Act, 2012 December 5th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, there was much in that speech that talked about the platitudes of standing up for business and economic development that I disagree with, but I would like to focus on just one aspect.

To reduce the small business tax rate over the last six years by 1% was a step in the right direction, but a really feeble step. The step in the wrong direction was the reduction of the large corporate tax rate similar to the United States at well over 30% down to 15%, with no criteria for job creation or investment in Canada. When we look at the facts, most of the dollars that have been given away to those large corporations have gone to the ridiculous salaries of CEOs and moving money to offshore tax shelters. The real investment has been in the United States not in Canada.

When will you either raise the rates back up to something comparable to the U.S. or ensure there is real criteria for real economic development in Canada?

Petitions November 28th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, I also have the pleasure of presenting a petition on behalf of residents from across Ontario in support of my cellphone freedom act, Bill C-343, which would take an important step in providing greater consumer choice in the marketplace.

The petitioners are asking parliamentarians to support Bill C-343 so Canadian consumers are no longer chained by anti-competitive network locks on their cellphones.

Petitions November 28th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, I have two petitions today. The first is a petition on behalf of residents of Neebing, Kenora and Thunder Bay on the topic of restrictions on abortion.

Health November 28th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, northern reserves have experienced a huge epidemic of OxyContin addiction. Health professionals tell us that it is one of the most addictive substances ever created, but the Minister of Health has now approved the sale of a cheaper generic version of the drug.

We do not need more OxyContin; we need Suboxone treatment programs instead. Will the minister pull OxyContin and generics off the market and protect northern communities?

Health November 22nd, 2012

Mr. Speaker, today, grandmother Wendy Hoy arrived at Parliament after walking 800 kilometres from her home. She walked to raise awareness about the risks of unsafe levels of radiation. We are all surrounded today by devices, such as cellphone towers, WiFi and even smart meters. Studies have shown that excessive radiation poses health risks.

When will the government finally take action on the health committee's 2010 recommendations to protect the safety of Canadians?
