Statements in the House

The Economy June 7th, 2021

Mr. Speaker, does that member not look around and see businesses shut down across the country? The Liberal third wave has brought our economy to a halt. While Canada bleeds jobs, the U.S. job numbers continue to climb. In the last month alone, the U.S. created 500,000 jobs, which is almost double what we lost.

The fact is that Canadians should not take the Liberal government seriously. After all, we can see that the Prime Minister and the finance minister are more focused on planning their travel itineraries than getting Canadians their freedoms back and getting them back to work. Is that not the truth?

The Economy June 7th, 2021

Mr. Speaker, the finance minister promised one million jobs by the end of June. Here we are, almost at the end of June, and the numbers are painting a very different picture: 300,000 jobs lost in the last two months because of the Liberal vaccine failure. While in other countries, like the U.S. and the U.K., economies are roaring back, here Canadians continue to live locked down at home without a paycheque and continue to see their savings emptied.

When will the Liberals finally release a detailed plan to reopen our economy and get Canadians back to work?

Broadcasting Act June 4th, 2021

Madam Speaker, I have to correct my hon. Liberal colleague from Manitoba. I do recall when we, in opposition, pounded the desks and did not let the then finance minister, Bill Morneau, deliver a budget. It was not because the Speaker had delivered a ruling; it was because we did not believe Bill Morneau was fit to be finance minister after all his ethical lapses. I recall that quite well.

Respectfully, the issue here is that this is such a rare manoeuver for the government to take and there needs to be confidence that it is indeed in order. I understand that you believe it is order, Madam Speaker, but you have also indicated a number of times over the last half hour that you do not have the answers as to why you believe it to be in order. We trust you are confident you will get those answers. Why not suspend the House and speak with your officials, those who are assisting you? That is absolutely reasonable. Then you can come back when you feel confident you indeed have the answers and you can make your point, and have the confidence of everyone that it is in order.

Because it is a rare issue coming before us, my suggestion and my request would be that you suspend the House. Madam Speaker.

Broadcasting Act June 4th, 2021

There are quite a few points of order coming forward, Madam Speaker. I respectfully suggest that you take those points of order as they are coming up. I know this is difficult, but, respectfully, it is what you need to do.

Broadcasting Act June 4th, 2021

There are points of order, Madam Speaker. If you are confident it is in order, then take the points of order.

Broadcasting Act June 4th, 2021

You need to suspend, Madam Speaker, if you do not have a ruling.

Natural Resources May 31st, 2021

Mr. Speaker, well, this is like a broken record with these Liberals. On Keystone, all the Prime Minister could muster was one call to Biden before it got cancelled.

On Line 5, the Prime Minister did not even raise it with the President until he got pressure from the Conservatives.

These Liberals have gone six years without a softwood lumber deal. This should not be a big surprise to the Minister of Natural Resources. On Friday, though, he revealed that the Americans will not even negotiate with him on softwood lumber.

Why are Canada's natural resources and our resource workers always just an afterthought for these Liberals?

Natural Resources May 31st, 2021

Mr. Speaker, Canada's economic relationship with the United States is breaking down rapidly. First the Americans cancelled Keystone XL. The government was silent. Then the Americans put Line 5 on the chopping block and there was barely a peep from the Liberals. Now it is Canada's forestry sector. For months, the Liberals have been telling us how much they agree with the Americans.

What is it going to take for the Liberal government to stand up for Canadian workers?

Indigenous Affairs May 31st, 2021

Mr. Speaker, Canadians have been grieving today and over the weekend after hearing the deeply sad and disturbing news of the remains of 215 indigenous children found at a residential school in Kamloops.

Empty shoes are being left on front steps across the nation and flags are being flown at half-mast. We are all so saddened for these children, their families and their relatives.

Indigenous leaders have asked for a thorough probe to find out the identity of these precious little children.

Can the government please update this House on what its plans are?

Public Safety May 26th, 2021

Mr. Speaker, I am not surprised that the Prime Minister just hurls insults of racism; it is his usual tactic.

I am not talking about Chinese Canadians. I am talking about a Communist regime that nobody in the world trusts except, it would appear, the Prime Minister of Canada. I again will ask him about the Communist regime and the military that supports that regime. Will he stop research co-operation with that military, seeing the danger it poses not only to Canada but to the world, yes or no?
