Statements in the House

Mr. Speaker, here is the problem with the Liberals' answer. The Prime Minister said that he wants to phase out the oil sands. He said this in 2017. He attacked pipelines with Bill C-69. He implemented a tanker ban and a job-killing carbon tax. That has meant thousands of jobs lost in the west. Losing Keystone would mean at least 2,800 more jobs lost.

What is the Prime Minister's plan to ensure that the Keystone XL project goes ahead so that more Canadian jobs are not lost?

Natural Resources November 16th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, Canada's economy was showing signs of trouble before COVID-19 hit, with record debt and out-of-control spending. In fact, in March of this year, prior to COVID, Canada lost over a million jobs, many of those in the energy sector.

Since 2015, energy workers have been abandoned by the government, so when Keystone XL was approved in the U.S. in March 2017, there was once again a glimmer of hope for Canadian workers. Those hopes are now at risk.

What will the Prime Minister do to ensure that the Keystone XL project moves ahead in the United States?

Health October 28th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, now we are getting somewhere.

The Prime Minister has admitted that they are looking into why the early warning system was shut down, so I will ask again. Canadians really do deserve to know. They have just been told that Christmas could be cancelled. They have been told that they are not going to get rapid testing for a long time. Canadians are being told they are at the back of the line for the vaccine. These are really serious issues.

Again, Canadians deserve to know who is doing the review of the decisions that the Prime Minister and his government have made around the early pandemic warning system.

Health October 28th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister did not hear what his Minister of Health said on Sunday, that in fact the alert system needed to be in effect and she said that there was going to be a review of why it was shut down.

This is very disturbing because we have a pattern where the health minister is making mistakes, making bad decisions, blaming bureaucrats and then somehow blaming the opposition for asking questions. Canadians deserve to know why the early warning system was shut down. If the Prime Minister does not know, he can say “I don't know” but he needs to answer that question.

Health October 28th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, the Liberal government made the decision to shut down Canada's early pandemic warning system. The result of that was, when COVID hit, Canada was relying on information from the Chinese government, which meant that there were wrong decisions made and delayed decisions. The Minister of Health said there would be an internal review done on why the government shut down the early pandemic warning system.

Can the Prime Minister tell us who will be conducting that review?

Portage—Lisgar October 28th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, my riding of Portage—Lisgar is a shining example of how Canadians have stepped up and helped each other during the pandemic.

For example, Winkler business Ironmen Industries adjusted its business to build mobile handwashing stations; Tyler Moran, also of Winkler, manufactured face mask extenders for frontline workers; and RV part manufacturer ICON Technologies switched its production to face shields.

Then there are Altona residents Melanie Schroeder and Brenda Driedger. They have made hundreds of masks, and donated many to truck drivers and health care workers.

In Portage la Prairie, with the help of many volunteers, the Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation, the Family Resource Centre and the Portage MCC opened up a soup kitchen to help those in need during the pandemic.

The strength of a community is boosted when people come together to help each other, and Portage—Lisgar has always been a strong and giving region. I send my thanks to the residents of Portage—Lisgar. They are true community heroes.

Foreign Affairs October 27th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, we know that some of these bad actors are also big donors to the Liberal Party and the Trudeau Foundation. We are known by the company we keep, and the Prime Minister seems quite comfortable hanging out with Chinese Community Party officials.

It begs the question: Does the Prime Minister's fear of Communist China and his refusal to, for example, ban Huawei from Canada's 5G or stand up for Canadians who are being held hostage in China have anything to do with his being compromised by his cozy relationship with CCP officials?

Foreign Affairs October 27th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I am sure that the Prime Minister gets hundreds of requests to meet with Canadians from right across the country. I am sure that, because the Prime Minister's time is precious, he must make deliberate decisions on who he meets with and why.

With that mind, why did the Prime Minister choose to meet with multiple Chinese Communist Party elites who have apparent links to gangs, illegal casinos and organized crime here in Canada?

Ethics October 20th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, these Liberals should be ashamed of themselves. We are in the middle of a pandemic. Kids cannot go out for Halloween. People cannot visit their dying loved ones. Restaurants and small businesses are being shut down, but the Prime Minister must have his way and if he does not he is going to force everyone into an election. These are not the actions of an honourable leader. These are the actions of a self-serving emperor with no clothes.

Will the Prime Minister stop the cover-up, stop holding Parliament hostage and back off from his threats of an election if this motion passes? He should show some leadership.

Ethics October 20th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, there is a troubling pattern with this Prime Minister. When he is backed into a corner or does not get his way, he elbows, he bullies, he fires and he threatens. He is doing that again right now as his cozy relationship with WE is being exposed. He is threatening to plunge Canadians into an election during a pandemic.

It has been said that those with nothing to hide, hide nothing. When will the Prime Minister stop the threats, stop hiding and come clean with Canadians?
