Statements in the House

Christmas Greetings December 11th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, Christmas is a joyous time of year, when families and friends get together and celebrate the holiday season. From parades to holiday shopping, to dinners and parties, the Christmas season is filled with many exciting festivities and events.

It is also a time when we can reflect on the many blessings we have received throughout the year and look forward with hope to what lies ahead. We have so much to be thankful for, from family, to friends, to health. The list is endless. In the spirit of giving this season, let us also remember to share generously with those who are less fortunate and make this a Christmas to remember for all.

I would like to wish all members and all Canadians a safe and very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Protection of Canada from Terrorists Act December 8th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the member opposite saying that she abhors terrorism and acts of violence. On this point, we could not agree more.

For that reason, will the member call on the member for Scarborough—Rouge River to apologize for her comment, comparing a day celebrating Tamil Tiger terrorists to our solemn Canadian occasion of Remembrance Day. These comments were shameful and must be retracted.

Justice for Animals in Service Act (Quanto's Law) November 28th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, I believe that if you seek it, you would find unanimous consent to see the clock as 1:30 p.m.

Justice for Animals in Service Act (Quanto's Law) November 28th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, there has to be some relevance to the bill before the House. This member has been going on about issues that have nothing to do with Bill C-35, Quanto's law. It is certainly high time that he got back to the bill.

Business of Supply November 27th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, I believe if you seek it you will find unanimous consent to see the clock as 5:30.

Committees of the House November 27th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, there have been consultations between all parties and if you seek it I believe you will find consent for the following motion. I move:

That it be an instruction to the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs to: (a) examine policy options for addressing complaints of harassment between members of the House of Commons; (b) make recommendations concerning a code of conduct for members for the prevention and resolution of harassment in the workplace, including a clear definition of harassment; (c) make recommendations concerning a fair, impartial and confidential process, including options for the role of an independent third party, for resolving complaints made under the code; and (d) make recommendations concerning training and education initiatives to ensure compliance with the code; and that the committee report its findings and recommendations to the House with all due haste.

National Defence November 21st, 2014

Mr. Speaker, the website of the member for Halifax is promoting an event that describes NATO's Ukrainian assurance measures as “...schemes to use Ukraine as a battering ram and platform on which to foster major aggression against Russia.”

Can the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence please provide the House with an update on what the government is doing to stand up to Vladimir Putin and for Ukrainian sovereignty?

Committees of the House November 6th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, I ask that we defer the vote until the end of government orders on Monday, November 17.

Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act October 3rd, 2014

Mr. Speaker, I would ask that you seek consent to see the clock as 2:05 p.m.

Country 107.3 June 19th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, I rise in the House today to congratulate Country 107.3 in Tillsonburg on winning the radio station of the year for a secondary market award at the 2014 Country Music Association of Ontario Awards.

The awards night was held in Markham on May 26 to recognize artists, producers, songs, and radio stations that encourage and promote Canadian country music. The winners were selected by members of the Country Music Association of Ontario, who voted for their top three choices in each category.

Country 107.3 beat some tough competition and came out winning due to its great promotion of Canadian talent through its music selections, community involvement, promotions, leadership, and recognition.

Country 107.3 is not only an asset for Oxford but also for all Canadians who love to see Canadian talent being displayed and recognized. I would like to once again congratulate everyone at Country 107.3 on their win and tell them to keep on being champions of Canadian country music.
