Statements in the House

Infrastructure May 25th, 2015

Mr. Speaker, we have delivered the most important plan in Canadian history for infrastructure. We transferred last year, in July and November, two tranches of the gas tax fund to all provinces in Canada. Projects are ready to be announced. Some have been announced in Nova Scotia and other parts of the country, and we will continue to work very hard with municipalities and provinces in respect of jurisdictions and what they did not have in the past.

Infrastructure May 12th, 2015

Mr. Speaker, that is, again, wrong. We have added $750 million for transit, which will become $1 billion a year, only for transit. Last year, we announced a 10-year plan. We will not re-announce that every year. Probably the Liberals would do that, but we announced that last year and we will deliver it over the next 10 years. We will do our job.

Infrastructure May 6th, 2015

Mr. Speaker, it is the longest and largest infrastructure plan in Canadian history. We already transferred $2 billion last year out of the gas tax fund. We will do the same this year. We will continue to do that all across the country, in support and in respect of jurisdictions with the provinces and municipalities.

Quebec Bridge May 6th, 2015

Mr. Speaker, the NDP just got out of its own commitments with CN regarding what they want to do. CN must immediately respect its commitment to the people of Quebec City.

With our partners, we have invested $100 million. CN has to do its part. A bill is not going to change that.

Quebec Bridge May 6th, 2015

Mr. Speaker, we know that the member ran a photo contest for the Quebec Bridge. He probably did not have a picture of his leader in front of the bridge.

We worked hard to invest the $100 million—

Quebec Bridge May 6th, 2015

Mr. Speaker, the NDP's proposal is nothing but a political mirage. Given the House of Commons' schedule from now until the end of the summer and the upcoming election, they know perfectly well that they will never vote on it. This is one more indication that they are not taking their work seriously.

We will continue to do our work by putting meaningful proposals on the table, not mirages like this one.

Quebec Bridge May 6th, 2015

Mr. Speaker, our Conservative government is the only one to have come up with a proposal that would enable us to move forward with our partners—

Forestry Industry May 4th, 2015

Mr. Speaker, never in the history of Canada has a government done as much as we have for the forestry industry, and without raising taxes or interfering in other jurisdictions. Speaking of jurisdictions, there is no doubt that the NDP would like to centralize everything in Ottawa, but we respect the provinces and we will continue to work very hard. We also respect the fact that forest management is a provincial matter.

The Budget April 27th, 2015

Mr. Speaker, let me quote Mayor John Tory: “a major step forward” for Toronto and for the country.

It is good news for Toronto and good news for cities across Canada. The federal government committed to establishing a dedicated fund to invest in public transportation. Very well done.
