Business Of The House May 4th, 2000

Madam Speaker, I rise on a point of order. I think you will find consent in the House for the following motion: I move:

That notwithstanding any standing order, Bill C-445, an act to change the name of the electoral district of Rimouski—Mitis, standing on the order of precedence on the order paper in the name of the member for Rimouski—Mitis, be deemed to have been concurred in at report stage with the following amendment:

That Bill C-445, in clause 1, be amended by replacing the words “Rimouski—Neigette et La Mitis” with the following:

“Rimouski—Neigette-et-La Mitis”; and

That the bill be deemed to have been read a third time and passed.

Questions On The Order Paper May 4th, 2000

Mr. Speaker, the hon. member has raised this issue on the floor within the last couple of weeks. The answer that I would hold out today is not terribly different from what I described the last time. A draft to the member's question was prepared and it was returned for revisions. I am advised that it is certainly in the pipeline and imminent.

Mr. Speaker, I ask that all questions be allowed to stand.

Committees Of The House May 4th, 2000

Mr. Speaker, if the House gives its consent, I move:

That the membership of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs be modified as follows: Norman Doyle for André Harvey.

(Motion agreed to)

Government Response To Petitions May 4th, 2000

Mr. Speaker, pursuant to the standing orders I have the honour to table, in both official languages, the government's responses to seven petitions.

Motions For Papers May 3rd, 2000

Mr. Speaker, I ask that the remaining Notices of Motions for the Production of Papers be allowed to stand.

Motions For Papers May 3rd, 2000

Mr. Speaker, it has not been the practice of the House to order: cabinet documents which include a privy council confidence; papers the release of which might be detrimental to the future conduct of federal-provincial relations or the relations of provinces among themselves, the release of papers received from provinces would be subject to the consent of the originating province; papers of a voluminous character or which would require an inordinate cost or length of time to prepare.

I therefore ask the hon. member to withdraw his motion.

Motions For Papers May 3rd, 2000

Mr. Speaker, would you be so kind as to call Notice of Motion for the Production of Papers No. P-14 in the name of the hon. member for Yorkton—Melville.

Motion P-14
