Statements in the House

Rouge National Urban Park Act November 24th, 2016

Mr. Speaker, I have a question about the Government of Ontario and the ownership of its lands in the park. What are the impediments in terms of turning that land over to the federal government, so it is totally under the stewardship of the federal government?

Infrastructure November 23rd, 2016

Mr. Speaker, the Liberals are taking $15 billion away from communities to set up their new bank.

We repeatedly warned that small and rural communities would be left out of the funding opportunities. Instead of listening, the Liberals called Canadians stupid and irresponsible for raising concerns.

Yesterday, the finance minister was forced to admit that small communities will in fact be left out.

When will the Liberals stop betraying rural communities, and start working to get infrastructure built in every part of the country?

Infrastructure November 21st, 2016

Zero net new jobs, Mr. Speaker.

Over 99% of announced infrastructure projects by the Liberals are not yet under construction, and zero new full-time jobs have been created since they took office. Announcing projects in a community does not equal breaking ground, starting construction, or job creation. Getting infrastructure projects built is what creates jobs.

Does the minister understand that simply announcing and reannouncing infrastructure projects in communities does not create jobs?

Infrastructure November 21st, 2016

Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives delivered a balanced budget, completed over 7,200 infrastructure projects, created over 1.2 million jobs, and set up P3 Canada to leverage private sector dollars, which delivered over $6.6 billion in additional infrastructure. The Liberals gave us a $30-billion deficit, zero new full-time jobs, and they are taking $15 billion away from communities for their bank.

With this record, how can they call Canadians stupid and irresponsible for questioning their methods?

Canadian Human Rights Act November 18th, 2016

Mr. Speaker, I understand that there is a special adviser who has been appointed. I am wondering if the member can lay out some of the initiatives that will be undertaken with the work of the special advisor.

Infrastructure November 18th, 2016

Mr. Speaker, experts from the Conference Board of Canada, the Bank of Montreal, the TD Bank, the parliamentary budget officer, and the Department of Finance have all said there are no signs of economic growth.

Zero new full-time jobs have been created since the Liberals took office. Less than 1% of infrastructure projects have started construction. The Liberals promised Canadians that deficits would create jobs and grow the economy. Clearly, their plan is not working.

Would the minister explain to Canadians why he has failed to create one single job from his infrastructure announcements?

Canadian Human Rights Act November 18th, 2016

Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the speech by my colleague across the way and thank him for his work on this file.

He talked in generalities about the different initiatives that would be undertaken. I wonder if he could elaborate more specifically on what that would look like going forward.

Infrastructure November 17th, 2016

Mr. Speaker, Canadian communities have lost $15 billion in infrastructure funding in order to finance the Liberals' new bank. Less than 1% of the promised infrastructure projects are actually under construction, and zero full-time jobs have been created since the Liberals took office.

The minister has stated that he still has lots of questions about the design of this bank. Why are the Liberals focusing their efforts on selling infrastructure to foreign interests instead of creating jobs for out of work Canadians here at home?

Infrastructure November 3rd, 2016

Mr. Speaker, clearly, the minister is confused about how many infrastructure projects are actually under construction. This is not a surprise, especially when the minister told the Senate finance committee that he was confused by all the buckets of infrastructure money the Liberals had at their disposal.

The truth is that less than 1% of the announced infrastructure projects are actually under construction.

Why are the Liberals refusing to acknowledge that their plan is not working and they are not getting Canadians back their jobs?

Infrastructure November 3rd, 2016

Mr. Speaker, the Liberals have failed to create a single full-time job since they took office. This should not be a surprise because less than 1% of the announced infrastructure projects have started construction over this past year.

Now we learn that, instead of building infrastructure, the Liberals have been busy setting up a bank, which is going to cost taxpayers $15 billion.

When will the Liberals come up with a plan that actually creates jobs instead of pushing Canadians further into debt?
