Statements in the House

Business of Supply September 26th, 2024

Madam Speaker, it is an honour and a privilege to rise in this place to address members and the people of Canada, but first I have to say that I am disappointed that the hon. Minister of Finance is not here to listen to my maiden speech. If she had been here—

Military Justice System Modernization Act September 19th, 2024

Madam Speaker, the Liberal soft-on-crime bill, Bill C-5, would allow criminals convicted of sexual assault to serve their sentence at home in front of a television. Does the member believe survivors of military sexual trauma should have to endure their attacker serving out their sentence in the comfort of their house right down the street?

Toronto—St. Paul's September 17th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I thank the great people of Toronto—St. Paul's for putting their trust in me and standing up to be counted. I thank my daughters Leah and Charlotte for their support and making my life easy. I give a special thanks to my campaign team, led by Amanda Philp, with Sadaf Rostami, Harrison Rotman and a nationwide list of volunteers. Finally, without the encouragement of my partner Andrea, none of this would have been possible.

We have shown what is possible. Toronto—St. Paul's is just the beginning of Canadians choosing common sense. After nine years of the NDP-Liberals, taxes are up, costs are up, crime is up and time is up. Canadians know the Liberal Prime Minister is not worth the cost. Canadians know the NDP leader is in it for his pension. While Canadians pay the price of costly NDP-Liberal policies, only common-sense Conservatives would axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget and stop the crime.

Carbon Pricing September 16th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, after nine years of the NDP-Liberals, taxes are up. Costs are up. Crime is up. Time is up. Just last week, we heard that a million people in Ontario were accessing food banks. Meanwhile, the NDP leader supports the Prime Minister, keeps him in power and supports his crushing carbon tax increases.

I just finished a successful by-election campaign. Why will the NDP-Liberals not let Canadians decide about the carbon tax and call a carbon tax election now?
