Statements in the House

Business of Supply September 25th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, I would like the member to be honest in comparing what the Conservative government did for veterans in its 10 years and what our government has done for veterans in our three years. Does he have the courage to say the truth to the Canadian people?

Criminal Code June 7th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, if we read this bill in its entirety and analyze it properly, we see that it is a very important bill for human rights.

Could my colleague further illustrate how this bill would help with respect to intimate partner violence?

Democratic Reform May 30th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, Bill C-76 is a generational overhaul of the Canada Elections Act for the 21st century.

Climate Change Champion May 23rd, 2018

Mr. Speaker, Michael Haddad is a Lebanon UNDP climate change champion.

Today he is with us, as he has travelled to Canada to walk 100 kilometres to the North Pole. Completely paralysed from the chest down since the age of six, Michael is going to take up this challenge for humanity in order to raise awareness about climate change around the world. Why the North Pole? We are all aware that this region is changing as a result of the accelerated melting of ice.

Moreover, prime scientific institutions are coordinating to introduce to the world this scientific challenge, endorsed by the United Nations, as making Michael walk to the North Pole is exactly like putting a person to walk on the moon.

Thank you to Michael, who is the epitome of courage.

Fadi Ziadeh April 17th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall on January 29, the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, received the letters of credence of the head of the Lebanon mission, His Excellency Fadi Ziadeh, ambassador of the Republic of Lebanon in Canada.

On behalf of my colleagues in the House, I want to wish Mr. Ziadeh the best of luck in his mandate. He was the consul general of Lebanon in Montreal for six years, where he already left his mark by modernizing consular services for the Lebanese community.

I sincerely hope that our new ambassador will help our relations with Lebanon to continue to progress. We are determined to develop our bilateral, economic, cultural, and political ties and work together in international forums in which we share common interests.

Long live Canada. Love live Lebanon.

Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner's Report April 17th, 2018

Madam Speaker, the easiest thing to do is to criticize someone, especially when that person is achieving something the previous government was unable to achieve.

I would like to remind my colleagues in the other parties that they do not see what the Prime Minister has achieved, with his historical investment in infrastructure to create jobs and grow the economy, protecting the environment, lifting hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty, shifting Canada's name from the bottom line to the highest international levels, and putting Canada on the front line of the G7.

I am sorry to say that either those members do not see it the way they should, which means they are blind, or they have to open their eyes more, be realistic, and tell the truth to the Canadian people.

Taxation March 22nd, 2018

Mr. Speaker, tax season has begun. By filing their income tax returns, Canadians get access to the tax credits and benefits that will help them to make ends meet. However, some people find it difficult to file their tax return.

Can the minister inform the House of what our government is doing to help low-income Canadians file their tax returns?

The Budget March 20th, 2018

Madam Speaker, I would like to assure my colleague about the following. When someone needs to buy a house, if he does not have the money, he takes out a mortgage in order to have a better life for his wife and children. That is exactly what we are doing. We are borrowing money in order to invest in our infrastructure, our environment, families, students, science, our research. We keep investing in order to pay the debt left to us by the previous government.

The Budget March 20th, 2018

Madam Speaker, I would like to assure my colleague and all members in the chamber that she touches the spirit of the budget, how the budget is encouraging women locally and internationally.

We have a program to go even further, out of Canada, to make life better for women. Here, we help women who have the intention to do a difficult job. We will give them $8,000 for training, in order for them to qualified and productive in our society. We will continue, from students to workers to parental sharing, contributing a lot on the subject.

The Budget March 20th, 2018

Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague whom I have a lot of respect for. I enjoy working with him on committee.

I would like to reassure my colleague on the other side that the government will not have barriers, it will destroy barriers, and it will give access to young women, young children. We encourage science development, research, students. In this way, we can grow our economy. We can prepare our country for a better life for our future generations. This is the way we are doing it, and we will continue to do it. I assure my colleague that this is the best way, under this government.
