Mr. Speaker, we know what happened in British Columbia when the NDP was in power. It went from first place to last place and became a have not province.

The economy is now booming in British Columbia because of the finance policies of this government. Working with our provincial partners, we are bringing in incentives for the forestry workers. We understand they are struggling but we are very proud that the economy in British Columbia is one of the hottest economies in the entire country.

Forestry Industry May 1st, 2008

Mr. Speaker, I do not know what the member calls $1 billion. Our Prime Minister announced $1 billion to help affected workers through the community development trust. This was given to the province to deliver these programs. We are working.

We understand what happens when workers lose these jobs.

We are very proud to say that since our government has come into office we have created more than three-quarters of a million net new jobs in this country and our economy is strong. Unlike the Liberals, who, if they were to ever possibly get control, would raise taxes and drive us back into deficit and debt with one promise after another that is unaccountable--

Forestry Industry April 11th, 2008

Mr. Speaker, in fact, the $1 billion community development trust money for targeting hardships went out to the province to administer these programs. We are delivering for our forest communities. We understand this is a very difficult time for them. We understand it is a difficult time for the sector right across Canada. That is why we are putting these programs in place.

I should also mention the other $400 million that we have already delivered for the forest industry, looking at innovation and new product opportunities. We are working with organizations like the Forest Products Association of Canada.

We are getting the job done. These programs will be delivered to the province in cooperation with it. We are looking forward to those results.

Natural Resources April 11th, 2008

Mr. Speaker, we are delivering action. We are delivering more energy from wind, from renewable energy, and the member should recognize that our government is taking action.

The Liberals allowed greenhouse gases to rise by 35% in their 13 years in office. Their record is abysmal and they should be ashamed of it. We are getting the job done. We are delivering results for Canadians in every single corner of this country.

Natural Resources April 11th, 2008

Mr. Speaker, we do not have to take any lessons from Liberals in our commitment for clean, renewable energy for this country. We have put $1.5 billion for wind energy, 4,000 megawatts of absolutely clean energy. We are announcing these projects in every single corner of this country.

We are very proud of our record. We are getting the job done. We are delivering. The Liberals should be ashamed of their record after 13 years of inaction.

World Food Situation April 10th, 2008

Mr. Speaker, in our budget our commitment is very clear. With respect to biofuel we committed $2 billion, but $500 million of that is to develop the next generation of cellulosic ethanol, from things like waste from the forest and the pine beetle wood that is out in British Columbia.

We are investing heavily in this technology and we are moving forward.

Natural Resources April 8th, 2008

In fact, Mr. Speaker, we have had consultations throughout the industry and with stakeholders throughout the process. We are moving forward on this file. We believe we will have something very good to announce shortly to the Canadian people for the extractive sector.

Gasoline Prices March 12th, 2008

Mr. Speaker, first of all, one thing we do know for sure is that under the Liberal plan, the price of gasoline would skyrocket.

Market prices are the only thing that is going to work. That has been proven over and over again. Once the government tries to regulate, it is proven that it does not work.

Our government has taken action. Our government has reduced the GST from 7% to 6% to 5%. We will continue to reduce taxes for all Canadians to ensure that they can have their hard-earned income.

The Environment March 3rd, 2008

Mr. Speaker, we do not need to take any lessons from the NDP.

Carbon sequestration is one of the leading technologies. We take CO2, which would normally go in the atmosphere, and put it in the ground where it came from, not to mention the fact that we have committed more money in renewable energy and on energy efficiency.

We are taking concrete action that will reduce CO2 emissions, unlike previous governments after 13 years of letting them rise by 35%. We are getting the job done on behalf of all Canadians.

Forestry February 26th, 2008

Mr. Speaker, I cannot believe there is any Liberal who has the nerve to stand up in the House and talk about forest fires, never mind AECL, after their government for 13 years did nothing with respect to forest fire management.

Our government has put more money into the mountain pine beetle initiative. That money is going to over 200 communities throughout British Columbia to target forest fire management.

We are getting the job done. The Liberal Party when in government ignored all of those problems for 13 years and did absolutely nothing. Now the Liberals have the gall to stand up and pretend they care.
