Mr. Speaker, last December, the environment minister declined to order an impact assessment of the Bighorn mine outside of Hinton, saying that it would be dealt with by provincial approval. However, on July 30, ministerial discretion was used to designate the Vista mine expansion to be under federal review.
When will the government finally admit that it does not want any form of natural extraction in Canada?

Mr. Speaker, I rise today regarding the layoffs recently announced at Suncor Energy. A total of 15% of Suncor's workforce will be laid off in the coming weeks. This comes directly as a result of the government's anti-energy policies. Instead of exporting our oil, the government is exporting our jobs.
Two weeks ago, the government delivered the throne speech. The only thing mentioned about oil and gas in the throne speech is how they will play a role in getting to net zero emissions. I believe the Liberals' plan to get to net zero is to eliminate oil and gas in Canada. This is not a sound way to build back the economy while there is still a huge need for oil, gas and all the by-products it produces.
While the government does not support Canadian producers, it thinks nothing of bringing oil in from foreign countries, such as the United States, and instead support Donald Trump in making America great again. The Suncor layoffs are the most recent example.
When is the government going to stop exporting jobs and start exporting oil?

Mr. Speaker, I really appreciated my colleague's story about being a chiropractor and understanding the auto industry.
Because of what they are proposing for agriculture, my concern is that there are now youth who are a second or third generation away from the farm and have no idea where their food production comes from, except that it comes from a local grocery story.
Could the member touch on how this experience will help this young generation build a better understanding of agriculture and where their food comes from?

Mr. Speaker, I was raised on a farm where I learned the value of money and the importance of financial planning.
With every budget the Liberals put out, they continue to add billions of dollars to our national debt. This is not budgeting; this is reckless spending. There are now so many uncertainties in the Canadian economy, with companies like Teck and investors like Warren Buffett unwilling to invest in Canada. Now, combined with the coronavirus, the future of the Canadian economy is looking pretty bleak.
I am sure the Liberals will paint a pretty picture that navigating our turbulent economy will be like gently floating down a stream in an inner tube, and it might even be enjoyable. I wonder what theatrical words the Prime Minister will use to describe why we are heading straight over Niagara Falls.
Emergency Debate February 25th, 2020
Madam Speaker, I keep hearing everyone talk about how oil and gas prices are not going down. Could someone please explain to me why consumption keeps going up? That is my biggest concern.
The next thing that I have to be concerned about is that all these oil and gas projects are being cancelled in Alberta, yet we do not stop having imports of oil and gas from other countries. Then we could deal with climate change for a change. Let us actually all agree to ban all oil and gas imports coming into Canada, so people can stop saying “climate change”.

Citizenship Act February 24th, 2020
Madam Speaker, a very interesting point that we have been talking about today is reconciliation, and more so the symbolism that we have been seeing today. The symbolism that is being talked about is what I am more concerned about. In the reconciliation report there is just a change of four words to the swearing-in ceremony, yet the Liberals want to do more, which is fine.
The point is that we keep hearing about symbolism and how we are going to address reconciliation, but was there not a protest today out on the front lawn of Parliament? Have there not been blockades these last couple of weeks? When are the Liberals actually going to do something about reconciliation, instead of the symbolism that we keep seeing?
Rail Transportation February 21st, 2020
Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister's weakness is costing Canada's economy once again. People in Alberta and across the country have lost all faith in the government's willingness to end the illegal blockades.
The pressures facing families and communities are leaving some Canadians so frustrated they removed one of the blockades themselves. The Prime Minister's weak leadership is creating circumstances for dangerous vigilantism.
On what day will I be able to tell the businesses in my riding that they can finally resume the transportation of their products?

Madam Speaker, since the Liberals were first elected over $100 billion in energy projects has been lost, thousands of jobs are gone and national unity is damaged. The failure to approve the Teck mine would make this problem even worse. Canada's environmental assessment agency recommended this mine be approved. The project has signed agreements with all indigenous groups that live near it.
Will the government stop dividing the country and approve this science-based project?
