Statements in the House

The Economy November 25th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, do members know what is cruel? The Liberal government is excluding seniors, people living with disabilities and people who just started working from receiving the $250 cheque that is going out in spring. What a slap in the face that is.

Why is the Liberal government excluding the most vulnerable in our country?

Taxation November 20th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister can help people by stopping taxing the essentials.

Every time Bell or Rogers increases their cellphone bill, the GST they pay goes up. The GST should never have been applied to essentials.

The Liberals are failing Canadians. It is time to fix that. Will the Prime Minister give people a break by cancelling the GST on essentials, yes or no?

Taxation November 20th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, do you know what families are telling me? They are telling me their cell phone bills and their Internet bills are so high that they have to cut back on monthly costs, like swimming lessons for their kids. The Liberals are hurting Canadians by taxing essentials, and king cut and the Conservatives are going to make things even worse. They want to cut the benefit for children, the child benefit. That could lose families $600 a month.

Will the Liberals stop taxing essentials like cellphone and Internet bills right now?

Veterans Affairs November 6th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Liberals continue to break their promise to eliminate the “marriage after 60” pension clause. They label women as “gold diggers” and push veterans and their families into poverty.

The government announced $150 million for veterans five years ago, but has not spent a single penny. Veterans and their families are owed a good life. Will the Prime Minister eliminate this sexist, archaic pension clause or does he still believe veterans are asking for too much?

International Trade November 6th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, that is cold comfort to Canadians who are worried about losing their jobs.

Donald Trump has proposed plans that threaten jobs in Canada. He has proposed plans to impose tariffs that will not only threaten jobs, but also increase the cost of living, which is already too high.

Is the Prime Minister prepared to state clearly today that Donald Trump is wrong?

International Trade November 6th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, Canadians are worried that Donald Trump's plans will hurt people. They are particularly worried that his plans to impose across-the-board tariffs are going to hurt Canadian jobs. It is going to mean that the cost of everything goes up.

Will the Prime Minister state clearly, stand up today and say that Donald Trump's plans are wrong?

Health November 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, did Galen write that answer?

Private health care is a jungle. It can cost up to $250 for a minor emergency. It is so profitable that real estate investors are opening private clinics. The Prime Minister calls all that innovation.

Will the Prime Minister finally show some backbone and put an end to all of that?

Health November 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, who here does not have a family doctor? Five million Canadians do not.

Loblaw owns Maple, and a family doctor working at Maple will charge $80 a month per person. Things have gotten so bad. This is predatory. The Prime Minister lets us down and then Galen Weston swoops in to profit off of it.

Why is the Prime Minister letting Galen Weston profit off of people's pain?

Health November 4th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Liberals are letting people get charged to get to the front of the line, which should be illegal.

In Quebec, the private sector is playing an increasingly greater role in health care. The Collège des médecins du Québec is asking for an immediate halt to any further private sector expansion into medical care. Studies clearly show that for-profit clinics increase wait times. The Prime Minister, however, calls that innovation.

Why is the Prime Minister allowing American-style companies to profit from the pain of Canadians?

Health November 4th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, in Canada, we believe health care should be there when we need it, and it should be free.

Today, Collège des médecins du Québec president, Dr. Mauril Gaudreault, was quoted saying that patients are typically being told by doctors that they could do the surgery in 14 months, but if the patient goes to their private clinic, they could get it done in one month and it would cost $25,000. Dr. Gaudreault says that is questionable, if not illegal.

I think it is pretty clearly illegal. Does the Prime Minister agree?
