Mr. Speaker, as I have said time and again, the accusations by the Liberals on this file are completely false. If the member for York Centre really believes in his accusations, in about 15 or 20 minutes we will have the opportunity to vote in this House. The question will be whether the member for York Centre will walk his talk and vote in this House and defeat this government, or whether he will do what he has become accustomed to do, which is do what the Liberal coach has done, which is pull his goalie and sit him on the bench.

Mr. Speaker, of course if the Liberals believed their own accusations, they would be voting to defeat the government.

I have an email that I would like to read:

My name is Scott and I live on Heritage Mountain [in Port Moody]. We have never met, but I wanted to contact you to let you know that this year, my accountant tells me, my wife and I are going to pay $1,890 less in taxes this year compared to last year due to pension splitting and some of the tax reductions that have come into effect in Ottawa. We will put the money to good use this summer when we visit our grandkids back East.

I would like to thank the member for York Centre for helping my constituent with his financial considerations.

Mr. Speaker, we have nothing to hide in this matter. As I stated several times in the past months, there is no scandal. The Liberals have said that Mr. Cadman was offered a $2 million life insurance policy, but that is utterly untrue. Anyone who examines the facts will realize that the Liberal accusations are false.

Mr. Speaker, of course, we are not afraid of the question. We have answered it a number of times in the past month here in the House of Commons. As a matter of fact, when we reflect on the kind of language that we are seeing from the Liberal Party, we have to think that the outrage from the Liberals on this is maybe a little synthetic.

The fact is over the past couple of years, as I said yesterday, the Liberals either through abstentions or ineffectiveness helped us pass three budgets, two extensions to the Afghan mission, our crime package, our environment plans, and probably tonight in a confidence vote we are going to be able to pass our immigration reforms or be on our way to doing it.

I would like to thank my colleague from Beauséjour on behalf of my constituents for sitting down so we can stand up for Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, here he goes again with his imagination. The reality is there was no offer of a million dollar life insurance bribe to Chuck Cadman. That allegation by the Liberals is entirely false.

As for the rest of my hon. colleague's question, I am afraid I have no comment on the Watergate scandal as it happened two years before I was born.

Mr. Speaker, yes, we did want to bring down the Liberal government in May 2005. However, we are pleased that the Liberals are not interested in bringing this government down today.

Over the last two years the Liberals have allowed the Conservative government to pass three budgets and two extensions to the Afghan mission. They passed our crime package and our environment plans. This week or next, they are going to pass our immigration proposals and our immigration reforms.

With political enemies like that, who needs friends.

Mr. Speaker, once upon a time there was actually an official opposition in the House of Commons that used to raise substantive policy questions in the House of Commons. Once upon a time there was an official opposition that gave a damn about what Canadians wanted the House of Commons to address. Once upon a time there was an official opposition that really, truly brought issues of substance to the House of Commons. Once upon a time there was a Liberal Party that actually believed in things rather than smear people's reputations with false accusations.

Mr. Speaker, this is a new approach that I have not seen in eight years in Parliament. The Liberals invent a scandal, then they invent their questions and then they invent their answers to their own questions.

Again, we have been straightforward on this, as has the Prime Minister. There was no offer of a million dollar life insurance policy. Any efforts to present that as the truth is in fact fraud.

Mr. Speaker, as I have said, this question has been answered a number of times.

After a month of Liberals throwing stones and trying to build a false scandal here, they still have all of their work ahead of them because the allegation that they have made against the Prime Minister that he somehow offered Chuck Cadman a million dollars in life insurance is utterly nonsensical. It has proven to be so day by day.

The Liberals should get on and talk about issues that are a concern to Canadians, rather than continuing to invent these scandals day after day.

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister has already explained this many times. The only offer made to Chuck Cadman was to rejoin our caucus, run as a candidate and be re-elected. There was no offer of a million-dollar life insurance policy. This accusation by the Liberals is false.
