Madam Speaker, after nine years of the NDP-Liberals, taxes are up, costs are up, crime is up and time is up. However, it was the leader of the NDP who was out trick-or-treating a bit early. He was tricking Canadians into thinking he was going to end his Liberal coalition, and his treat was his pension. As a result of that, more and more Canadians are facing the carbon tax, and we have nine million Canadians who are facing food insecurity.

Will the NDP-Liberal government end its tricks and call a carbon tax election so it is Canadians who have the treat?

Mr. Speaker, yes, we will cut. We will cut the carbon tax. The government's own statistics show that more than nine million Canadians are suffering with food insecurity, struggling to put food on the table. After nine years, the number of Canadians who are facing food insecurity is up a staggering 111%. These are not just statistics, but millions of parents who cannot feed their kids. This is a result of the costly Liberals' carbon tax and their NDP coalition partners. They are driving up the costs on farmers, truckers and food production. Let us stick a fork in the current government and call a carbon tax election.

According to Feed Ontario, more than a million people were forced to go to food banks just to feed their family. This is a record-shattering increase of 25%. This stark reality is fuelled by the Liberal-NDP carbon tax, which is driving up grocery prices. Canadians are struggling to put food on the table. Will the Prime Minister end this suffering and call a carbon tax election?

With regard to the government's Clean Fuel Regulations and Clean Fuel Standard: what is the projected impact that the regulations and the standard will have on Canada's gross domestic product, broken down by year between now and 2030?

Mr. Speaker, there were some very important recommendations in this report about the horticulture sector, but there were some things that were missing. Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit Carleton Mushroom Farms, not far from Ottawa, and it spent $170,000 in carbon tax last year alone. We know that 44% of produce growers are selling at a loss.

One recommendation that was removed from this report was the importance of approving Bill C-234 unamended because the amendment would remove the carbon tax carve-out for greenhouses and mushroom farms, which would cost them more than $300 million by 2030.

Mr. Speaker, the NDP-Liberal carbon tax scam was exposed last week, and it confirms what every hard-working Canadian already knows: It makes life unaffordable. The Liberals' own data, which they desperately tried to hide, shows the Liberal carbon tax scam robs Canadian families of $2,000 a year. This is money that they would put on dance fees, hockey registration or a summer vacation, or just to put food on the table. The truth is hard-working Canadians cannot afford the environment minister's carbon tax scam.

Will he admit it is a failure, just resign and give Canadians a break?

Mr. Speaker, the Liberal-NDP Prime Minister is robbing hard-working Canadians to pay for his out-of-control spending. The level of that thievery was exposed last week when the Liberals were forced to admit that their carbon tax scam robs our economy of $30 billion a year and it picks the pockets of every single Canadian family of $2,000 a year. The environment minister is not worth the economic vandalism he has wrought on Canadians.

Will the minister admit that his carbon tax is a scam and just resign?

Madam Speaker, I appreciate the question, but the member just said herself that food prices are higher than they have ever been. It is just a coincidence then that the carbon tax has gone up 23%. The government is increasing taxes on farmers, truckers, processors, manufacturers, grocery store retailers, every other part of the supply chain, fertilizer and feed. All of those things have gone up because of the carbon tax, but it is just a coincidence that food prices are also at a record high.

Madam Speaker, I do not know where the out-of-touch positioning comes from, wherein the Liberals want to say that food inflation is up less than 1%. One just has to go to a grocery store. We know that the cost of bread is up almost 30%. We know the cost of produce, in many cases, is up 25%.

The “food professor” from Dalhousie University, who is an expert on this, said that as a result of the carbon tax and other Liberal policy, wholesale food prices are up 54%. He suggested the Liberals cap the carbon tax and not increase it on April 23, but they did so anyway. The facts are clear: Carbon tax is driving up food prices.
