Statements in the House

Interim Estimates March 21st, 2019

Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. As you may be aware, earlier today the member for Don Valley East used language that was unparliamentary. The chair occupant at the time encouraged her to return to the House and apologize.

I would point out that she returned at some point but has not yet apologized to the House for the unparliamentary language. Pursuant to the precedent noted earlier, it would be appropriate to name her, pursuant to Standing Order 11, and that she be withdrawn from the House for the remainder of the session, as has happened in the past in the citations I gave earlier.

Interim Estimates March 21st, 2019

Madam Speaker, I rise on a point of order. I would draw your attention to a number of precedents in this place in which members have used unparliamentary language and have not withdrawn the matter. I draw your attention to March 24, 1993; September 30, 1994; and May 29, 1995. There are about a dozen examples in which this has happened.

In each of those examples, the Speaker of the day used Standing Order 11 and named the hon. member. Therefore, I would encourage you, based on precedent, to name the hon. member and have her withdraw from this House for the remainder of the sitting day.

Interim Estimates March 21st, 2019

Mr. Chair, I appreciate your clarification on the reading.

I would point out that there were at least two Liberal members who came out after you had read it the second time, those being the member for Vimy and the Minister of Official Languages.

Supplementary Estimates (B), 2018-19 March 21st, 2019

Mr. Chair, I would like to begin by asking this week's Treasury Board President whether the supply bill presented is in its usual form. While she is on her feet, perhaps she could end the cover-up and allow the member for Vancouver Granville to speak.

Questions Passed as Orders for Returns March 18th, 2019

With regard to the new ministries announced in 2018, including Export Promotion and Organized Crime and Border Security: what is the total of all costs associated with creating each ministry, including the costs for any office renovations resulting from the creation of the ministries, broken down by line item and ministry?

Questions on the Order Paper March 18th, 2019

With regard to the television advertising being done by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) during the 2019 NFL Playoffs: (a) what was the total amount spent by the CPPIB during the 2019 NFL Playoffs; (b) what are the details, including the total amount budgeted for the advertising campaign from which the expenditures in (a) were drawn; (c) why did the CPPIB advertise during the NFL Playoffs; and (d) does the government consider this advertisement to be a prudent use of taxpayers money?

Committees of the House March 18th, 2019

Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. I look to your guidance and clarification. It did appear that the member's time had expired prior to his moving the motion. I seek your clarification as to whether that was in fact the case and whether that would make the motion eligible to be receded.

Committees of the House March 18th, 2019

Madam Speaker, the hon. parliamentary secretary is wrong. What we were supposed to be debating today in the House of Commons was the final supply day motion, but the government House leader took away that final opposition day motion and moved it, because the Liberal government was afraid to debate the fundamental rule of law issues associated with the SNC-Lavalin affair.

Why is the Liberal government still preventing the former attorney general from speaking?

Committees of the House March 1st, 2019

Mr. Speaker, I would only say that you did call petitions and the member for Edmonton West was recognized. I think we should require unanimous consent to revert to motions.

Justice March 1st, 2019

Mr. Speaker, the former attorney general gave extraordinary testimony about the political interference by the Prime Minister in an ongoing criminal trial. Her testimony was backed up by credible evidence: names, texts and documentation. She said, “I experienced a consistent and sustained effort by many people within the government to seek to politically interfere in the exercise of prosecutorial discretion”.

The Prime Minister has lost the moral authority to govern and must resign. When will he?
