Statements in the House

The Environment December 4th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, the Charlevoix Biosphere Reserve has been recognized by UNESCO since 1988. This is a unique conservation site that helps the region grow and helps put it on the map.

Unfortunately, the Conservatives cut funding for this reserve in 2012. Now, it could lose its international status and recognition. The people of Charlevoix are working together to maintain this recognition. Will the minister help the reserve or will he ignore Charlevoix and biodiversity in Canada?

Montmorency—Charlevoix—Haute-Côte-Nord Fundraising Campaign December 3rd, 2014

Mr. Speaker, the holidays are fast approaching.

I would like to tell the House about the tremendous effort and selflessness of the hundreds of fundraisers who will soon take to the streets throughout my riding of Montmorency—Charlevoix—Haute-Côte-Nord to collect donations and non-perishable food items for people in need.

This is a long-standing tradition in Quebec that deserves our encouragement and praise. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the dedication and generosity of the volunteers who get involved when the time comes to help the less fortunate in our community.

I would like to thank each and every one of the men and women who, just by sharing, make our community a better place.

Respect for Communities Act December 1st, 2014

Mr. Speaker, I have a very simple question for the hon. member. I believe that it is important to base our laws on facts and not ideology. I would like to know whether the member believes that supervised injection sites help lower the crime rate and whether they not only help improve the users' well-being, but also the well-being of the surrounding community.

Employment November 25th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, for over a year now, youth employment centres have had their applications for funding from the skills link program rejected.

They are constantly grappling with uncertainty and confusion. Applications for projects to help unemployed youth have been gathering dust for the past 18 months.

Can the minister tell us what is going on with the skills link program and why applications from centres in my region have been rejected?

Petitions October 29th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, the third petition pertains to the creation of a social responsibility ombudsman for Canadian extractive companies. Hundreds of people from my riding signed this petition.

Petitions October 29th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, the second petition pertains to abolishing the Senate.

Petitions October 29th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present three petitions signed by hundreds of people from Beauport, Côte-de-Beaupré, Charlevoix, Île d'Orléans and Haute-Côte-Nord.

The first pertains to stopping the cuts to Canada Post's services.

Canada-Korea Economic Growth and Prosperity Act October 27th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, I would like my colleague to clarify something that bothers me a bit.

We know that our neighbours, the United States, managed to get benefits and protections for their industries that we, in Canada and with our government, are not managing to get. I wonder why the United States is able to protect its industries, while here we either do not want or cannot do so. What is the reason?

Business of Supply October 21st, 2014

Mr. Speaker, do the Liberals really think that asking the Minister of Health to show up twice a month will protect Canadians?

I think this is a feeble motion. Would they be willing to amend it and strengthen it to make it more forceful, more substantial, in order to better protect Canadians?

Digital Privacy Act October 20th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, Bill C-13 and Bill S-4 give access to personal information without a warrant or any oversight mechanism.

Why does the government want to allow snooping without a warrant by creating these deficiencies with no oversight to prevent abuses in the system?
