Mr. Speaker, there is another great Englishman who would say to the Leader of the Opposition, “Thou dost protest too much, I believe.” I would ask whether any of the Conservative members have the courage of their conviction to stand up to the bullying the Leader of the Opposition is imposing on them.

In fact, there is one. The member for Lethbridge is the only Conservative MP who voted in favour of the Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement on Tuesday. I would ask whether there any other Conservative members who have the courage of their conviction to stand up for freedom and democracy, and against the bullying of the Conservative—

Mr. Speaker, on this side of the House, we are proud to stand up for Canadians.

Last week, what the Conservatives did is that they voted consistently against measures that not only make life more affordable for Canadians, but help them in their time of need.

On the 988 line, which was just launched with regard to suicide prevention, what did the Conservatives do? They voted against it. When it came to supporting victims of gender-based violence, what did the Conservatives do? They voted against it. The list goes on.

That is irresponsible. That is reckless. Quite frankly, these are right-wing extreme politics from the United States that we do not want here in Canada.

[Housing, December 11th, 2023]

Mr. Speaker, speaking of Montreal, it is nice to see the Leader of the Opposition show up for work today. I guess there was not a fundraiser that he could attend.

However, if we want to talk about last week, what Canadians saw on display was the Leader of the Opposition bringing right-wing Republican tactics to try and shut down the government.

Canadians do not want the kind of chaos they see in Washington. They want responsible leadership in Canada, and that is not what we witnessed from the Leader of the Opposition last week.

On this side of the House, we will continue to stand up for Canadians and stand up to bullies.

[Supplementary Estimates (B), 2023-24, December 8th, 2023]

Mr. Speaker, seeing as we have been voting for almost 28 hours, I thought this time we could try something a little different. Instead of adding another $70,000 on the clock as the tax-and-spend Conservatives want to do, I thought perhaps we could save taxpayers money, which I thought the Conservatives would be for but it turns out they are not, and could try passing this on division.

[Business of Supply, December 7th, 2023]

Madam Speaker, I move that, notwithstanding any Standing Order or usual practice of the House, if the House has not disposed of all questions related to the business of supply for the period ending December 10, 2023, by 11:59 p.m. later this day, the Speaker shall suspend the proceedings of the House until the next calendar day at 7 a.m., at which time the proceedings will resume, provided that (1) in the event that consideration of any motion or bill based on the supplementary estimates (B) is not completed by 11:59 p.m. that day, the Speaker shall again interrupt the proceedings until the next calendar day at 7 a.m., in order to dispose of the business of supply; (2) at the end of the said supply period, the House shall adjourn to the next sitting day, pursuant to Standing Order 24(1).

Mr. Speaker, my hon. colleague knows that the Senate is independent. If he really has questions as to why that amendment passed, he should ask the one-third of Conservative senators who sit in his caucus and did not show up for the vote. I will note that the amendment only passed by one vote, so he should not take out the entire Conservative Party of Canada's frustration with its own caucus on the House of Commons or on Canadians.

I would also remind the member that, when it comes to the price on pollution, we learned this week, in fact, that 94% of low- and middle-income Canadians are better off with the rebate than without it. Again, in typical Conservative fashion, they are looking to take from the poor and give to the rich; the only folks who would benefit are the highest income earners, but that is typical Conservative policy.

However, I would be delighted to answer the usual Thursday question, because that was slightly out of character. Normally, this is not something we debate.

As we approach the adjournment for the holiday season, our priorities during the next week will be to complete second reading debate of Bill C-58 on replacement workers; Bill C-59, the fall economic statement implementation act; and Bill S-9, which would amend the Chemical Weapons Convention Implementation Act.

We will also give priority to the bills that are now in their final stages of debate in the House, including Bill C-57, the Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement; I would remind the House and, indeed, all Canadians that the Conservatives have obstructed this bill at every single opportunity. We will also put forward Bill C-56, the affordable housing and groceries act, and Bill C-29, which provides for the establishment of a national council for reconciliation.

We will consider other bills reported from committee, such as Bill C-50, the Canadian sustainable jobs act. Moreover, I would invite any Canadian to watch the shameful proceedings of the Conservative members of Parliament at the natural resources committee last night. The House deserves better respect, but we will be here to stand up for Canadians every single day and to stand against bullies.

Mr. Speaker, there is only one caucus in Parliament that is losing its mind, and it is the Conservatives, because the Conservative senators did not show up to vote on Bill C-234 in the other place.

We are happy to be here as long as it takes, because we will always stand up for Canadians and we will always stand against bullies.
