Mr. Speaker, the federal government refuses to fund the Yonge subway extension without a formal business case, yet York region today is the fastest-growing region in Canada, with over 52,000 businesses, 636,000 jobs and home to over 1.2 million people. Demanding a business case is just another excuse so the Liberals never have to actually deliver.
If infrastructure is so critical, why is the federal government against the Yonge subway extension?

Mr. Speaker, the Ontario government has already committed to the funding for the Yonge subway extension.
The Yonge subway extension would create over 60,000 jobs and enable housing for 88,000 residents. It would drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions by taking over 3,000 buses a day off the streets. York Region keeps asking but the government remains silent.
When will the government create jobs, protect the environment and fund the Yonge subway extension?

Mr. Speaker, long before COVID-19, the Liberals promised to put people first by investing in public transit. Nowhere is the need greater than the Yonge subway extension. With 1.2 million residents and over 636,000 jobs, York Region is one of Canada's largest municipalities but still has no Yonge subway.
This is the top priority for the residents in my riding and for all of York Region, but the Liberals are not listening. When will the government deliver critical infrastructure funds for the Yonge subway extension?

Mr. Chair, at yesterday's China committee it was stated that the People's Republic of China is actively threatening Canadians on Canadian soil who seek to expose China's authoritarian agenda. These individuals have been subjected to everything from physical threats to commercial blacklisting and state-backed cyber-hacking with no protection from Canada.
When will the government introduce legislation to combat foreign influence and protect basic human rights in Canada from aggressive actions of the Chinese Communist Party?

Mr. Chair, the government negotiated away Canada's ability to hit back with retaliatory tariffs on a broad range of strategic products from across the United States. The new NAFTA is an abject failure when it comes to protecting Canada's economy.
Has the government conducted an assessment of how many jobs the aluminum industry will lose as a result of these punishing tariffs?

Mr. Chair, I will be splitting my time with the member for Chicoutimi—Le Fjord.
The new NAFTA agreement is not worth the paper it is printed on. The Prime Minister claimed victory when it was signed. Here we are, mere weeks after the agreement has come into force, and workers in the aluminum industry are suffering as a result of the Liberal government's failed approach.
Why did the Prime Minister mislead these workers into a false sense of security?

Mr. Speaker, what about the concessions that this country has made with respect to the United States-Mexico-Canada agreement and the national security tariffs that were imposed on Canada for steel and aluminum? Is that a contributing factor to our loss of the UN Security Council vote as well, because our allies do not depend on us to be there when they need us and do not trust our national security stance?

Mr. Speaker, our allies cannot count on us to be there for peacekeeping missions.
What about our failing diplomatic relations with China, to the extent that we have a situation where China will not buy our canola, will not buy our ginseng and is failing to buy our soybeans and other products? This, too, has contributed.
Could the government outline why we have a failed diplomatic relationship with China and its impact on our UN security bid?

Mr. Speaker, it is not those values that we have seen represented. The government committed to peacekeeping and to putting Canada back on the world stage, and yet the one peacekeeping mission that the United Nations asked us to do, we have already withdrawn from.
Can the government outline why that would have contributed to the loss of the UN security seat?

Mr. Speaker, the failure to condemn human rights abuses and stand up against anti-gay laws confuses the world and does not show that we are principled with values. What about the failure to behave appropriately in India? Can the government outline how that contributed to our loss of a UN security seat?
