[The Economy, December 9th, 2019]

Mr. Speaker, the last time the Prime Minister promised to lower taxes, he actually raised them for the majority of the population.

The failed economic policies of the Prime Minister have left Canadians with an economy that is not working for anyone. Businesses are leaving Canada and foreign direct investment has dropped by 56% under the government. Government spending is out of control. Canada's debt is blooming and we are on the edge of a recession.

Will the Prime Minister act and provide a fall economic update that includes a plan to balance the budget so that businesses will stay in Canada?

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister said that the economy is doing well, but that is not true. Last month, 71,000 Canadians lost their jobs, and personal bankruptcies were at an all-time high. Half of Canadians are less than $200 away from insolvency.

Will the economic statement include tax cuts for small businesses, reductions in red tape and a plan to balance the budget?

Mr. Speaker, Canadians are not reassured. Canadians continue to lose confidence in the Prime Minister's ability to defend our interests abroad. His diplomatic disasters continue to mount.

His trip to India was a failure. He angered our partners in the Asia-Pacific. Our ties with Saudi Arabia are frozen and our relationships with China are at an all-time low. Now his actions this week at NATO are further evidence of his undiplomatic behaviour.

When will the Prime Minister stop embarrassing Canada and just stay home?

Mr. Speaker, a growing number of Canadians no longer believe the Prime Minister when he says that Canada is back.

Every one of his international trips turns into a disaster, and the examples are endless. Just look at his trip to India and what a fiasco that was. His recent performance at the NATO summit is more evidence of his undiplomatic conduct.

Will the Prime Minister finally get the message and stop embarrassing Canada on the world stage?

[Violence Against Women, December 6th, 2019]

Mr. Speaker, on December 6, 1989, the entire country was horrified to learn that 14 young women with bright futures had been killed in cold blood for the sole reason that they were women.

There were tears and anger, and 30 years later, the sadness and bewilderment still linger.

How can we, as a society, stand by when people are killed simply because they are women? The pain of their loss will stay with us forever.

We must never forget this tragedy, and every single one of us has a responsibility to keep building a society in which all women feel respected, are free to pursue their passions, and do not face barriers because they are women.

We owe that to these 14 women, but we also owe it to our daughters, to our sisters, to our mothers and to who we are as Canadians.

[Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, June 18th, 2019]

Madam Speaker, there are two key elements we need to discuss at this moment. The first is with respect to the closure of this debate. It undermines our democracy on something of this nature of significance.

Over 10% of our GDP comes from the resource industry, of which oil and gas is critical. This debate is on how we get our oil and gas to market. Therefore, I would like to understand how we can justify limiting a debate on such a significant issue.

The second point has to do with the bill itself. We have two standards for either ends of the coasts. We have the most environmentally friendly oil practices in the world, yet the government is allowing all kinds of jurisdictions to send oil that is far less environmentally friendly by tanker to our east coast. However, the Liberals are putting a ban on how our west coast would get our environmentally friendly oil to market.

I want to understand how the Liberals are justifying shutting down the debate on something that has such a significant impact on Canada and why—

[Foreign Affairs, June 18th, 2019]

Mr. Speaker, for months the government has defended its lack of progress with China by claiming that it has built a coalition of countries who support freeing two Canadians from a Chinese prison. While a consensus among friends is helpful, the Prime Minister has yet to translate this global support into action. It rests with the Prime Minister to step up himself and demonstrate we are serious when dealing with China.

When will the Prime Minister act to break this deadlock with China and free our wrongfully imprisoned Canadians?

[Canada–U.S. Relations, June 18th, 2019]

Mr. Speaker, it has become obvious the Prime Minister is not taken seriously on the world stage. While the Liberals try to justify his disastrous foreign diplomacy, the Prime Minister inevitably makes another misstep that further erodes Canada's reputation. The result is that Canada has never been more alone.

Canada's economy and prosperity depend on trade and trade is all about relationships. Failed diplomacy is failed trade. That is why this meeting with the U.S. President this week is important. It is an opportunity for the Prime Minister to repair a strained relationship and advance Canada's interests.

Canadians imprisoned in China, softwood lumber, a guarantee of no new U.S. national security tariffs, improved defence and security, and Canada's Arctic sovereignty must all be addressed. Canada and the United States must resolve our differences and unite to face the common threats to our freedom and democracy.

Canada needs a Prime Minister who will rise to the challenge in Washington. There is much at stake.

Mr. Speaker, when will we see the Prime Minister stand for our sovereignty?

Canadians are concerned about the Prime Minister's ability to convince the U.S. President when he meets with him this week to act with Canada to free two Canadians from a Chinese prison. The Prime Minister consistently fails Canadians in our global relationships and, in particular, with China to the point where the Chinese President has said that he will not meet with the Prime Minister during the G20.

With lives hanging in the balance, will the Prime Minister secure the support of the U.S. President to help release our imprisoned Canadians in China?

[Carbon Pricing, June 14th, 2019]

However, Mr. Speaker, he is not going to actually meet the targets.

The Parliamentary Budget Officer has confirmed what the Conservatives have been saying all along; that the Liberal carbon tax is a cash grab, not a climate change plan. The Prime Minister has tried to hide the real cost of his carbon tax, but the PBO has laid out the truth. The cost of gasoline would rise by at least 25¢ per litre.

When Canadians are trying to get ahead, not just get by, will the Prime Minister tell Canadians how much the full and final cost of this carbon tax will be?
