Resumption of debate on Address in Reply September 25th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I found the speech by my colleague from Kingston and the Islands unsettling. He tried to justify the throne speech's unjustifiable interference in matters under provincial jurisdiction. My colleagues and I consider that interference unacceptable. It is annoying, inappropriate and deeply disrespectful.

How does our colleague from Kingston and the Islands think historians will interpret what followed the prorogation of Parliament?

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply September 24th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I want to congratulate our colleague for his decidedly energetic speech.

Now that we have heard the throne speech, I would like to hear what he has to say about the following. Many speeches are focused on areas of provincial jurisdiction, for example, long-term care, and the fact that the government wants to get involved with people who live at home, access to family doctors, universal health care, pharmacare, the day care system and so on.

How does my colleague believe that we should get involved?

Perhaps we should be asking whether the federal government is looking to take on more responsibility.

Government Business No. 9 July 22nd, 2020

Madam Chair, I would like to congratulate my colleague on her speech, which was eloquent and clear, as usual.

What I took from her speech is that the delays are monumental. Of all the developed countries in the world, are there any examples of such a shift happening, and how did it happen?

Cat Café February 27th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, on February 13, during my visit to Quebec's wonderful national capital, I stopped in at an original and unique café that is home to 16 cats and one dog. It is called Café félin Ma langue aux chats.

The purpose of this enterprise is to bring veterans out of isolation. It was launched by two veterans who were struggling with PTSD and other issues. I want to recognize the dedication and courage of Marie-Pier Tremblay and Lisa Cyr. Their goal is to provide veterans with a space that is free of judgment and labels, where they can get together and interact with complete peace of mind. Basically, it is a refuge.

With this initiative, these two women are changing perceptions, preventing suicide and reducing the stigma associated with mental health.

I salute Marie-Pier and Lisa.

Citizenship Act February 24th, 2020

Madam Speaker, I commend my colleague for her clear and precise speech.

Bill C-6 seeks to enshrine aboriginal and treaty rights in law. I get the impression that everyone agrees with that.

As a Bloc member, why did my colleague not focus on the Quebec nation in her speech?

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act February 21st, 2020

Mr. Speaker, there is one part of my colleague's speech that I am very much interested in. He alluded to human trafficking a few times.

Could he elaborate on that a bit?

Business of Supply February 20th, 2020

Madam Speaker, duly noted.

There are three points that I would like to come back to.

First, this crisis could have been avoided. It has gone on for far too long.

Next, we all know that negotiations are taking place. We know that various departments are working on this crisis. Now, indigenous peoples have made a request. They want to meet with the Prime Minister. They want to talk to the Prime Minister. That seems to be a must.

I am therefore disappointed. That is the second point I wanted to comment on, with respect to my colleague's speech.

The third point I will add is that this crisis is now two weeks old and there is a risk that things will escalate. We know this is a crisis. We also know how it began. Now, after two weeks, there is a good chance the conflict will escalate.

Those are my comments.

Business of Supply February 20th, 2020

Madam Speaker, I congratulate my colleague on his speech.

You are an extraordinary orator. I am impressed, and I say that sincerely. It is not—

The Economy February 20th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, the consequences of the rail blockades will soon cost every family in Quebec quite dearly, and I mean financially. This weekend, there is a good chance that grocery store shelves will start to empty out, simply because we will not have enough stock. Hon. members across the way mentioned this earlier. What is more, all signs point to an increase in food prices as supplies dwindle. The Liberal government's lack of leadership will cost everyone dearly.

What is the Prime Minister's game plan for ensuring that the blockades are removed, because—

Hooked on School Days February 19th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, this is the week we celebrate Hooked on School Days.

This year's theme for Hooked on School Days is “Our Actions, A + in Their Success”. This theme is meant to encourage everyone, including us parliamentarians, to do more to contribute to educational success.

I want to take this opportunity to salute the teachers and all school staff, including professionals and support staff, for the indispensable investment they put in day after day.

Having worked as a school principal for over 20 years, today I am thinking about the young students who sometimes struggle to make it through the school day.
