[Government Decisions, November 17th, 2014]

Mr. Speaker, all of Quebec is coming together to denounce austerity policies, yet the federal government is moving forward with its harmful agenda to systematically dismantle the government bit by bit. The Conservative government is eliminating self-funding programs and withdrawing services that ultimately save public money. All this for purely ideological reasons.

What is even more frustrating is that these ill-gotten savings do little to help Canadians. Take, for example, the oil company Suncor, which receives millions of dollars in subsidies, even though Ottawa excluded the company from the federal bidding process because it was convicted of fixing gas prices.

The people of Montcalm, Quebec and Canada do not want to help the Conservative government's buddies in the oil industry. They want programs that stimulate economic growth. They want a government that cares about their priorities.

Mr. Speaker, when the price of oil goes down, the value of the Canadian dollar goes down considerably as well. Over the coming months, a large portion of the oil sands tax revenue could disappear into thin air.

Are government members aware that by abandoning the other sectors of our economy to focus on oil production, they are potentially exposing Canada to major economic turmoil?

[Destinations for All World Summit, October 20th, 2014]

Mr. Speaker, the Destinations for All World Summit, a summit on accessible tourism, began yesterday in Montreal. I would like to congratulate Kéroul and its president, André Leclerc, for the exceptional work they did organizing this major event on tourism for travellers with disabilities.

This summit will help expand and showcase accessible tourism, establish global partnerships and encourage more accessible infrastructure.

By bringing together the expertise of researchers and specialists, the Destinations for All World Summit will promote a better understanding of the specific needs of the client base and markets.

The ideas being shared will lay the foundation for many exciting projects that will spur economic growth and that will also allow those living with disabilities to travel with dignity.

I would like to thank the participants and the people of Kéroul for their dedication. Enjoy the Destinations for All World Summit.

Mr. Speaker, this week, my constituency office was inundated with calls following the government's decision in favour of military involvement in the armed conflict raging in Iraq and Syria.

The people of Montcalm are furious that our government is breaking with the traditional Canadian approach to international conflict.

Can the government explain to the people of Montcalm how bombings will bring about peace without creating new Islamic State sympathizers?

[Literacy Organization, April 10th, 2014]

Mr. Speaker, today I would like to highlight the excellent work being done by the A.B.C. des Manoirs organization.

A.B.C. des Manoirs provides support to people who want to finish their schooling and improve their knowledge of French and math. The organization helps people who want to re-enter the workforce by providing the training that some people desperately need. It helps many people get a high school or vocational diploma, but most of all, it provides some hope for a better future to people who very much need hope.

I want to congratulate the people at A.B.C. des Manoirs for the profoundly human work they do so well.

The support provided by this organization goes far beyond financial considerations, and before it even helps people improve their financial position, it gives the people of Montcalm something that no amount of money can buy: dignity.

It will be an honour for me to continue to support its mission. I wish this organization nothing but the best in the coming years.

[Petitions, April 7th, 2014]

Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present two petitions signed by over 400 people. The petitioners are calling on the Government of Canada to contribute the funding necessary for the repair and maintenance of the track between Bathurst and Miramichi, and to obtain a guarantee that Canadian National will keep the line between Bathurst and Miramichi open in order to maintain VIA Rail train services in eastern New Brunswick and Quebec.
