Questions on the Order Paper December 16th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the CRA can neither confirm nor deny the assertion contained in the preamble to the above-noted question regarding the named entity. The confidentiality provisions of the acts administered by the CRA prohibit the CRA from commenting on specific taxpayer information. This also includes information that may have been obtained from third parties, for example, tax preparers, as information collected through the electronic filing of returns, EFILE, is protected under the Income Tax Act.

With regard to parts (a) to (f), for reasons noted in the preamble to this response, the CRA is unable to speak to any specific cases. Generally speaking, when the CRA becomes aware of suspected identity theft cases, it undertakes an analysis and investigates the situation. Furthermore, until such an analysis or investigation is complete, the CRA would not comment as the information may be incomplete or could lead to inaccurate or misleading conclusions.

Finance December 12th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, what is disgusting about what we are hearing today is that they have the gall to call our Prime Minister a fake feminist when he has demonstrated his commitment to equality, to women and to women's rights in so many ways.

These people are engaging in petty politics by using hashtags to attract misogynistic men. They are disrespecting a great woman, namely the Minister of Finance.

International Trade December 12th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, we in the Liberal Party believe in supply management and we will continue to protect it. We also committed to never giving up any share of the market ever again.

The Bloc Québécois introduced this bill, but it did not get it passed alone. We are ready, however. We really made every effort to see this bill through because it is important.

However, we must be careful: This legislation only protects our farmers as long as there is no government that might want to reverse it.

International Trade December 12th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I agree with my colleague. An important vote is taking place in the Senate today.

I will remind her, though, that the Senate is now made up of independent senators, thanks to the Liberal government. This is a concept that my Bloc Québécois colleagues understand very well. Conservative senators, on the other hand, have to toe the party line, and I would be very curious to know what they have been asked to do.

In any case, we made an effort. We have made a concerted effort to pass the right information on to the senators. We hope they understand how important the supply management system is for Canada and Quebec.

Questions on the Order Paper December 4th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the CRA does not collect the information in the manner requested regarding Canada carbon rebate payments made in the last fiscal year to temporary foreign workers, international students, permanent residents, and citizens. The CRA does not require taxpayers to provide this type of residency information when they file a tax return.

Taxation November 29th, 2024

Madam Speaker, I am well aware of the file my colleague is talking about. We have looked at it from all sides. In fact, the process that is posing a problem right now is one that applies to every sector of activity in Canada. Making changes is very complex. In fact, we are having this discussion with the Minister of Finance. This approach applies to every industry in the country.

Government Business No. 43—Proceedings on Bill C‑78 November 28th, 2024

Madam Speaker, yes, for now we are debating this tax break, but as we have shown over the past few years, our government is there to help the most vulnerable. We have proved it in a number of ways, with the Canada child benefit, the Canadian dental care plan, the school food program, and the list goes on.

Government Business No. 43—Proceedings on Bill C‑78 November 28th, 2024

Madam Speaker, such disdain for Canadians is mind-boggling. It shows nothing but contempt.

Right now, it is about a two-month tax holiday. My colleague talked about breadcrumbs. What does she have to say about the dental care plan, which is helping people and especially seniors? What about the new disability benefit, the Canada child benefit, or our many investments in housing, for example?

We are there to help people and to help Canadians. The Conservatives, on the other hand, certainly can never be counted on. They will be there to make cuts, if by some misfortune they end up coming back.

Government Business No. 43—Proceedings on Bill C‑78 November 28th, 2024

Madam Speaker, this tax holiday we want to give Canadians in the coming months applies to children's clothing, diapers, children's shoes and car seats, as well as books, games, puzzles, board games, prepared foods and take-home meals. All of that is in the spirit of our government.

Since we have been in power, we have sought to help the neediest people when they need it most. We did it with the Canada child benefit. Let us recall that, when the Conservatives were in power, everyone got the same cheque, regardless of household income or children's age. We changed things. Now money is distributed in inverse proportion to income. That allowed us to lift half a million children out of poverty.

What we want to do is to continue giving Canadians a bit of a breather during the Holiday period.

Government Business No. 43—Proceedings on Bill C‑78 November 28th, 2024

Madam Speaker, I totally agree with my colleague. The aim of this measure is to help Canadians. We should not expect the Conservatives to support it. It is against everything they believe in. They are against anything we want to do to help Canadians, whether giving benefits to people with disabilities or funding school food programs. We cannot count on them.

Now we want to pause the GST and the HST in the provinces to help make the Holidays more affordable, to help people do a bit more for their children. That is what we want. We also want to give parents, workers and grandparents a break during the period following the Holidays.
